Hey all,
Just joined THR and thought I pop in to say hi to everyone. Seems like a very nice and friendly place with a lot of useful information and a bunch of very knowledgeable people.
I’m not new to shooting in general, but new to shotguns and shotgun sports, another words, I know absolutely nothing about shotguns and never fired one (though I wonder if Resident Evil experience counts :) ).
I was also wondering if anyone could recommend a decent book for the beginner, so I could get some understanding of the shotgun safety, basics, and techniques?

Welcome LS,

Since sm hasn't showed up yet for his recommendation of a book for new and old shotgunners, "Shotgunning, the Art and the Science" by Brister, is a must have for anyone wanting to know about shotguns and what they do.

Welcome aboard!! Check the Archives for the Shotgun 101 threads, there's a wealth of real world experience there for the new shotgunner.

Go to the search feature, click on advanced search. Type in 101, then my name, and designate the Shotgun forum. Read away.....

Any questions you find no answer for there, ask here. The only stupid questions are those one doesn't ask....

Pull up a chair and browse through the 101 threads like Dave mentioned.

I find this place to be the best on the 'net. Heck, even when I venture outside the shotgun forum it's pretty good. ;)

In case you wonder when you see it:

BA/UU/R stands for "Buy Ammo, Use (it) Up, Repeat"

You'll find that most threads relating to "How come my shotgun doesn't work?" are resolved with a thorough cleaning of said gun, and that most threads relating to "How can I improve my shooting?" are resolved with "BA/UU/R". But in between those pearls, there is a treasure-trove of information and experience at your fingertips.

BTW, I think the rule is that the new guy buys the beer and soda. :)

Howdy, LS, and Welcome! :)

Along with searching for the Shotgun 101 threads, be sure not to miss the old TFL threads listed in the "Sticky" on the main page of the Shotguns forum. Wait -- here's a link.

About Resident Evil: are you referring to this thread?

Thank you for the welcome and the recommendations. I will definitely go through the archives and try to get as much information as possible. I will also try to get either individual or group instruction on basic safety and general how-tos instead of wasting a lot of shells and learning bad habits (just like I did when I first learned shooting pistols  ), only to start everything all over again later and try to break those bad habits.
