Justice officials in "Panic Mode" over failed Gun Program

Any war has collateral damage, including the war against our freedoms.
Pretty shocking nonetheless to see someone frame it in war terms. Shocking because it's honest.

Looks like they might be putting the spotlight on Holder, although I suspect he will escape unscathed.

Republicans Step Up Pressure on Holder as More Details Surface on 'Fast and Furious'

By William Lajeunesse

Published September 23, 2011

Congressional Republicans once again are turning up the heat on Attorney General Eric Holder, asking more questions about whether he had a role in the controversial anti-gunrunning operation known as "Fast and Furious."

.

pretty funny how, in May, Holder said he'd only heard about F&F a few weeks ago, and yet in these tapes (recorded in March), he's being mentioned by name...hhhmmmm...

of course, if he did know about it, perjury is probably pretty low on his list of concerns.

From the Fox article above:

A document obtained Friday by Foxnews shows the following agencies all had some hand in Operation Fast and Furious: ATF, IRS, DEA, ICE, the U.S. Marshall's Service, Phoenix police and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

That's a lot of agencies, and we already know that one of the cartel buyers was actually an FBI informant.

Who is supposed to be coordinating the activities of all these agencies again? Who is in charge, and should know what his minions are doing? The guy who heard about all this in April, that's who.

does it seem odd to anyone that Obama went on Mexican National TV and told the mexican people that he and Holder did not know anything about these guns being allowed to cross the border?

Obama is still ignoring this issue, as is the media, in the U.S. But he felt it important to address the Mexican people about it. Evidently their media is not ignoring it at all. The fast and furious scandal has been on the front page headlines for months.

Here is the DOJ announcing that they are pouring more money and resources into Project Gunrunner at the request of President Obama himself:

Here's another good video explaining the basics of this scandal

Obama is still ignoring this issue...

I can guarantee you he is NOT "ignoring the issue", rather, he's "laying low and keeping his mouth shut" hoping (no... expecting) it to blow over. He's counting our "attention span" to expire.

History has borne out that the attention span will expire. This Congress already let another administration scoot by under the radar, and this one will be no different.

Only if we let it.
We always let it. Who's leading the way to pursue the fight against this or any other wrong doing? Me? You? Who can afford to spend their time and energy to do so? Maybe we've become too complacent or lazy. I don't know. I don't have the time or money to deal with my own personal issues. Even if I had the time and money I no longer have the energy or clarity of mind to take a lead in anything. So here we all sit, complaining about it, and doing nothing. Me included...

OK, OK, I admit that I have nothing better to do, so I'll lead.

Where do you all want to go anyway?

Uh... I think I might be bad at this.

Excellent post. i don't see a lot of panic in the US justice dep't: i see business as usual. Unless congress ramps it up; no one in the BATFE, FBI or any other gov't agency is going to be held accountable for this debacle. You would think the opposition party would jump all over this one: Fact is that most congressmen could care less. Our US congressman, Tom Cole, did not answer my correspondence on this issue.

I wrote my Democrat Senator about it and received a reply that he was monitoring this issue very carefully.

Of course, this doesn't mean anything substantial. But I like to write my Congreesman and Senators on every issue I think is important. It takes me 2 minutes and probably garners more attention than my one vote each 2 years does.

The DNC will circle the wagons a tell all their Congressman and Senators to tow the party line. But if those politicians receive thousands of letters/emails concerning a certain issue, then they know their future re-election hopes may hinge on breaking from the party line. You have to make your voice heard regularly.

Another recent example. I also wrote my Democrat Senator and explained that his vote on the bill H.R. 822 was a requirement if he wanted my vote for his re-election. He responded that if 822 made it to the Senate he would very likely vote for it. I'm telling you folks, it ain't perfect, but the more you make your voice heard, the more these politicians will change their priorities.

"as Mexico, according to sources, has opened two criminal investigations into the operation that flooded their country with illegal weapons. "

I wonder who they are investigating...

Politics is not checkers but more like chess. Sometimes a good strategy is best served by not letting your plans be to obvious. Lets hope that this year they will continue to collect data and testimony then sometime after Christmas and during the election year the case will be pressed forward with all the hoopla and maybe just maybe justice will be allocated and served.

Well I can hope!

Sky:
"Roger that". Timing can be everything.

I told my wife that if a stronger case against Eric Holder etc can be prepared, it should be released to the media about a month before the election, but by then the public (if they even see it on their preferred news channels;)) might not be interested.

Barnard R. Thompson, "An Inside Look at Mexican Guns and Arms Trafficking", Mexidata.Info, 31 May 2010.

Descriptions of the illegal arms market in the Tepito barrio:

"A percentage of the weapons, the seller said, come from Mexico via Ministry of Defense personnel who provide [them] in part from weapons seized in raids, or stolen from the ministry's own arsenal.

"Researchers note that points of sale of illegal weapons exist nationwide. Georgina Sánchez, from the Collective for Security with Democracy and Human Rights, said that there are 15 million illegal weapons in the country — 'A very conservative estimate.'
