I really like this Adopted Uncle role I have.
I really do.

I mean this is better than being a grandparent, spoiling grandkids, and then sending them home to drive their parents nuts!
Same parents as kids that drove grandparents nuts!

Young man is big enough for a single shot 28 ga shotgun, so I tell his grandma, who in turn gets grandpa to buy the young man one for the holidays.

See? I "are" good ain't I?

So the boys mom is taking a shine to her son's new gun. Dad...is getting hands slapped away and "you ares supposed to be checking on a 28 ga single shot reloader dear".

I tell the kid his mom used to have one as a little girl, but does not have one.

<sincere wittle boy, head down, hands in pocket...>

"Dad, you know mom puts up with a lot from us guys, and the dawg, she is the only girl in the whole house and she doesn't even have a .410 single shot shotgun, like she remembers growing up with".

*Yank!*
Yeah buddy, dad was sitting on his hand holding his wallet and that kid tossed out and dad took bait, hook, line and sinker!

Oh don't feel sorry for the dad, nope.
Sometime back he was the one that would not quit shooting a single shot 20 gauge.
Downright embarrassing he was...had to pry his finger off it we did.

Now I know this fella at the Gun Getting place the mom, the kid and I went to.
We might have waited for a few more folks to be at the gun counter...
So while I am handling the 20 ga single shot...

"Your husband likes that gun" - gun guy
"He is not my husband" - the mom says
"Oh, I am sorry, is that your dad young man/"
"No, he is not my dad" - young man said.
"Well who is this guy you two come in with?"
"My Uncle! - said the mom and boy at the same time.
"How can he be a Uncle to both of you!"

Folks will step closer to hear all this, and pretend they are not being nosy.

"Well...see there is this barn with a hayloft and back in the day..." - I started and stopped.

"We will take the gun, write 'er up and the boy and I will snag some shell". I said as the young man I headed to get shells.

Folks were heard saying as we left "darn, I wanted to hear about that hayloft and how he is a Uncle to both of them. *grin*

Family has 3 single shot shotguns, .410, 28 , and 20 ga.
Plus, 3 single stage reloaders..

Oh they have other shotguns, and other guns too, still, some times being the Adopted Uncle, just causes folks to do things they might not otherwise do.

Excuse me, I have to see whom else I can get into trouble now...

*wink*

Steve, as the title of this thread suggests....

Yeah, I get to be the designated "Pack Mule"....I carry the wallet with the money inside, untill said wallet is empty...Then I get to carry purchases to the car.....plus the now empty wallet....and Mrs. Foggy's half-consumed desert/soda.....
