I shoot a classic stainless lefty and want to carry it during the winter months when layers upon layers are necessary in the not so frozen (anymore) north.

I need an ambi safety for it.

The questions, I'm assuming an ambi safety doesn't require notching the slide on the right side as well as the existing left side notch.

Can I do this procedure myself or does a smith need to do it?

Should I get a Kimber ambi safety or would an aftermarket model be better and cheaper?

Have CTC grips on it, will the grips interfere with an ambi?

No need to notch the slide.

Gunsmith install.

A Chip McCormik safety would probably be cheaper, and pretty much match the kimber safety in appearance. Kimber does offer one that uses the sear or hammer pin for retention, rather than the right side grip panel, but its overpriced IMO.

Yes, the laser will interfere with the right side of the lever, it will need to be shortened to clear. You can see a pic of the overpriced Kimber safety, and about how much it needs to be shortened here at the CT website.
