Kimber Pro CDP II problem help !

Hello everyone can you help me solve this problem with my Kimber Pro CDP II?

History of Gun: I purchased my Kimber Pro CDP II around two years ago this coming up Christmas to add to my carry guns; between a G29 and my Kahr PM9 (love both there it 100% reliable). My G29 winter carry, PM9 summer and selective dress carry gun. I love the Kimber because of the 1911 feel and grip. I also feel with my IWB rig its the most comfortable set up.

History of Problem: The gun has had around ~1200 rounds through it consisting of mostly Remington UMC 230g, and Winchester Ranger +P - 230gr SXT. With Wilson combat mags 7rds (47,OXC). With the first 0-500 rounds was getting FTF (failure to feed) 2 every 50 rounds. 500-800 rounds about 3 FTF totally. I replaced the stock springs with Wolf 22lbs after 850 rounds to see if it would improve. However after returning from the range twice over the past few weeks I am getting about 2 FTF around every 100 rounds, irrespective of ammo. The FTF usually occurs with the last round in the mag (not always but mostly). With the FTF’s I can always push the slide forward to lock into firing position. You can see from the picture what it looks like, (sorry for the quality it was cell phone picture) I also clean my gun after every rang visit.

Help, how I can solve this problem. Could it be mag related? Feed ramp? Recoil sping? Or something that Kimber needs to fix? :banghead:

Ditch the Kimber Mags.

I had to do that with mine.

I have yet to hear anyone say "Oooohhhh buy a Kimber mag"

If that does not work, then someone more competent with 1911's and Kimbers can help you. All I know is to field strip and look for excessive wear or "peening"

Sounds like one specific magazine.

Number your mags and keep track of when the FTF occurs. Wilson mags are not foolproof, they do have failures.

If its an aluminum framed gun, the feed ramp might have been damaged from using hollowpoint ammunition. Mine is aluminum and was damaged using the Federal HST rounds, I fixed the problem by removing material from the barrel throat so it would line up with the gouge in the frame ramp. If this is the problem for you, be sure not to remove material from the inside of the chamber.

I had a kimber custom compact that did that from time to time. The gun would not function well with wilson mags (it hated them!) I had to use Mckormicks on that gun. It didn't even like kimber mags. My local gunsmith could'nt even figure it out. I had a Springfield Champion that only liked wilsons. Go figure!

OTOH, my present Kimber loves all mags. It may be because it's a full size frame. I don't know for sure.

The Kimber manual for the Pro size says your spring replacement intervals should be every 800 rounds. You can get the Wolf springs made especially for the 4" Kimbers but I've found that those still need changing about every 1000-1200 rounds.

Would that solve the feeding problem? I've never changed the springs on any of my 1911's. Am I supposed to change the recoil spring on my target II?

Supposedly the new Kimber Tac mags ARE good. Is this a 3" or 4" don't recall? I was having the same or worse FTF with my 3" 45 1911. You polish the ramp and hood of barrel to smooth feeding. The shorter 45's aren't really rated for +p loads. With the last round in the mag, there's less force on the mag spring, so the round likes to "flip" upwards as it strips off the mag. If the timing isn't just right on these short 45's you get this "vertical" jam. Mine was so bad I had some get caught sticking up out of the slide, caught between the slide and barrel! Also it had a double ejection once with the new round completely launched out of the ejection port.

This is a 4 inch model, I have it also. The only problems that I have had with it have been related to a magazine every time. I don't have any thing else to add to this thread, but yet I'm still typing......

My Kimber Eclipse runs fine with my Colt mags. It must want to be a Colt Since it lives with several of them .I am glad its trying too improve itself. God knows a Kimber needs all help it can get. What with all those MIM parts.
