okay, so i searched through the threads and found nothing, if i overlooked something point me in the right direction, please.

so i'm dryfiring the other night, while watching the RNC, whenever the camera would show maria shriver i'd let loose (am i the only one who thought she looked like the predator?).

i had the pistol at slidelock, and was releasing it with the slide stop, practicing doing that with my left hand, just to see how i like it. typically i have the trigger pulled all the way back, to simulate if i am firing, and releasing the trigger just enough so it resets.

but this one time, i had only very light pressure on the trigger, and when i released the slide, the hammer followed to half cock. i was able to replicate the phenomena several times, both by releasing the slide stop and by racking the slide. all it took was a small amount of pressure on the trigger for it to happen.

is this normal? during firing i dont see it as being a problem, since the slide will be cycled before i can release the trigger. and if i am loading a fresh magazine, i wont have my finger in the tirgger guard anyways, so i dont anticipate it being a problem should i ever have to fend off wave after wave of bad guys.

any ideas?

Good Work. Now you need a trigger job. We only drop the slide on an empty chamber ONCE to check for hammer fall. Your pistol needs attention NOW. DO NOT SHOOT IT.

Good thing we fixed your Para for ya spiffy, since Steve and Meat gonna be redoin yer trigger.....

Clean it first ok?

Better call me to go shootin tommorrow WE BE CLOSED!

It is bad for the hammer and sear when you drop the slide on an empty chamber. The jarring will actually damage the nice sharp engagement angles, then you have a sear that will let the hammer go with little or no warning and the potential for some full auto fire fun. The hammer and sear need to be inspected and either restoned or replaced.

Slammin' on Empty

Howdy Spiff,

In addition to all the stuff about how hard that is on the sear and hammer...it's also murder on the lower lug feet and slidestop pin...The pin's cheap. Replacin' the barrel ain't. Lotta threads on lettin' the slide slam on an empty chamber. Put on a pot of coffee and settle down for some readin'.

Maria didn't used to look that harsh...I saw her and the Governator at the Holiday Inn at Wrightsville Beach in 'the spring of '86...and she'd flat knock
a southern boy's eyeballs out. I guess all these years of dealin' with Ahnold has taken its toll on her. 'Course...he ain't a spring chicken his own self.:D

Take that shooter to a smith for a fix. Don't load it until ya get it done.
Sorry, lad. We live and we learn...

Luck!

Update...good news for the spifster...while he did a no no, he not completely wuin his finely tuned (sic)Kimber trigger. Jim West hisself gave the spiffy his imprimatur to keep bangin...with the caveat that when $$ arise, ol Spiffy gonna be puttin in C&S parts.....
