A friend found a knife in a box of gun parts he picked up. The only marking on it is a crest. I am guessing it is from east Asia. Anyone have an idea of who the maker is?

I would agree with the two previous gentlemen in that it looks to be German in regards to the country where it was manufactured. However I couldn't find a match for the lion on the shield with either German or English knife makers.

It appears to be a well made knife and rather interesting that it was found in a box of gun parts!

I only took pics of the one side. There were no other markings on the blades, tangs, bolsters, scales. From the lack of marks my thought Chinese. Europe and the Americas like to identify their products.

That lion Crest is reminiscent of the Crest of Sir William Marshal. A well forgotten man, was born of Norman descent, and into the world of British Royalty. His father was the royal stablemaster in the 12th century. William was the knight who bested Richard the Lionheart in battle and even became regent of England when the young king was too young to rule. I count him among my ancestors, as did the outlaw J. W. James.

However, as noted, the rampant lion was used by many in their own family crest in the Scottish hill country, England, and in Normandy. My guess at the knife would be Chinese, because of the lack of other markings. From those pics, it doesnt appear to be a bad knife
