Is anybody going to San Antone?
Im willing to bet that most of ya'll on here carry a knife, we carry for a variety of reasons. I am in the EDC group on FB and many people consider the knife as a non weapon, that confuses me a bit, I always thought of my knife as part of my self defense weaponry on hand at any given time while Im out. What do yall think? Do you place the knife in the same category as your firearm?

I definitely consider my knife as a tool. In fact this winter I have been carrying my leatherman Wave edc.

The pliers, scissors, and blade sees daily use. I am handicapped if I dont,,b. G

Edit: grandson got my tablet and submitted his first post in thr!
Anywayyyyyyyy....I dont like being without my pliers, at least in some form.
To me, a weapon would be more a tool of opportunity like lamp, or beer bottle. Whatever happens to be at hand.
My EDC usually is more tool-like than weapon....SAK, leatherman, etc. I am much more likely to snip a thread, or pull a cork than to stab some fellers

Tool. As in, "Why officer, that knife is a tool."

A knife can of course be used as a weapon quite effectively, but that's not why I carry one. I have pepper spray and a firearm to defend myself from attack. I almost always carry opposite side to my pistol though.

Leatherman carrier for decades, used them as tools thousands of times a year, never once as a weapon that I can recall.

I suppose if one counts field dressing as “physical damage” then I have used it as a weapon a number of times but still nowhere near as many times as it has been used as a tool.

I would go with, yes.

I carry a CRKT Fossil everyday, it would be quite effective as both

Really, the primary weapon is the brain. Everything else is just a tool and an extension of the users thoughts, focus, skills, and abilities.

aHow many times have we heard of folks, including cops, who shoot it out with a bad guy across the hood of a car and no one is shot? The gun was a poorly wielded tool.

Can not disagree with any of the above comments.
I have carried a knife since maybe first grade or so, everyday.
Feel naked without my Wave Leatherman not on my belt. Plus one or two additional knives one me.
I am going to say all are tools,as are must of my possessions. (A lot of things can be weapons)
My wife would disagree with the statement of "tools". She calls many of my tools "toys":)

I'm with hso on this one.

Mostly I carry tools. However, when I do my daily load-out, I take a moment to consider the various uses of the blades I carry on my person.

Yes, there's always one that could serve as a weapon.

But that's not why I carry it.
