I live two hours away and I’ve never been. I drove by once and they were parking on the shoulder of the main highway so I just kept on driving. I’ll go one day, God willing.
The strategy is this: If you are coming from outside the area, get a hotel room nearby for Thursday night. Then, early Friday morning, drive to Rt. 44 (Stites Station Rd.) and get in the line of cars waiting on the shoulder to get in. They open the parking lot shortly before the official opening time of 9 a.m. Find a parking space as close to the gate as possible and set up your "base camp." Change into your duck shoes and walk the rest of the way. If you plan to buy ammo, bring one of those folding carts.

I thought they had shuttles to transport the people who had parked way far away?

The shuttles don't go that far. lol

Seriously, we're not talking miles from the entrance, it's maybe a 10 minute walk from the road to the ticket booth, with the parking lot in between.

I been going since 1993, there is no reason to park on road, there are plenty of parking lots. They many shuttle buses running every few minutes. Yes it might be muddy in areas, and dusty in the fall. The pole barn area has been concreted, no more dusty gravel.i was there this past weekend.
