Has anyone tried mounting a visible laser on a carbine just for plinking? What model, on what gun, and how did you mount it? Also, how visible is the dot in daylight, and at what range? Anyone have one on a carbine for "serious use"?

I have one mounted on my dads 30 carbine. It is a barrel mount and sits underneath the barrel. We got one of the 10X brighter lasers when they came out, about 6 years ago. It runs at a lower wavelength, 635 nM I think, so it is brighter in daylight. It works well, haven't really shot it much. Great plinking gun.

Nate, I had one on a Bushie and it worked ok. Bright daylight made it tough to see at longer ranges, but even a slight overcast made it much easier to use. I've thought about getting a 870 mount for it, which would make it's use much more realistic.

I took it off a few years ago and now all I use it for is playing with the cat, it gets much more use that way and is a great method of entertainment! :)

Wow....I'd like to see you use it during DOVE SEASON. :neener:

I'm sorry...I just had this mental image of someone trying to point a laser guided 870 at a dove....

I have an inexpensive Laserlyte slung on my AMD-65 (shorty AK variant) with their universal rifle/shotgun mount. I put the activation button on the front pistol grip.

The cheapie adjustment allen wrench they sent with it stripped out or was the wrong size, but the laser adjusts nicely with a quality wrench. The dot is bright and crisp, but I've only been to my 25 yd range. POA is holding well for the couple of times I've had it out, and I group better with the laser than with the iron sights.

The thing is a hoot to shoot, and for plinking I highly recommend it. I plan on taking it out to the country for some longer range practice. It also adds to the intimidation factor if ever needed for self-defence. I would just keep proficient with the iron sights too.
