LC9S Owners....... What's the word?

I sold the LC9 and bought the LC9s because the trigger was so much better... at least while dry-firing it.

One unusual thing that I've run into is the trigger safety causes the pad of my index finger to become sore and painful after a few magazines of live ammo. I've never had this happen with any other trigger safety type firearm before. I fired it just yesterday testing various ammos and the middle of my index fingerprint is still somewhat sorish today.

It's really a minor issue because I'm not going to go through endless magazines in an SD situation. Everything else about it is just perfect. It swallows anything I feed it and has been 100% reliable. And I have enough other choices to shoot that are really more fun as range guns.

I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

The LC9s is great little carry. The trigger is the best of all the striker fired carrys that I have tried and I've tried about all of them.
I don't find the recoil bad at all but I have really large, meaty hands...
If snappiness is an issue you might try the heavier 145gr premium ammo.
I've shot it out of my larger 9mms and it really tones down the recoil.

"I really like my LC9s! I use the mags with pinky extensions, and I added rubber Talon Grips."

+1

Absolutely. Easy to carry, too.

Well my GF really likes her gun. She was totally surprised when I gave it to her. We went out this last weekend to shoot it.

The good part is that the recoil was manageable for her and she enjoyed shooting it. She was all over the place with it though, so I'm going to be working with her extensively to get her to a point of competency where she will not be a danger to others if carrying. She isn't there yet. But, after making some suggestions on her trigger control, she started showing improvement quickly.

The bad part.......... the dang thing needs to go back to Ruger. I'm not entirely sure what the cause is but I think the spring in the slide release lever is too strong and causing the magazine ejection to fail.

After shooting the last round, the slide locks back as it should. However, when you push the ejection button, rather than dropping the magazine, the magazine shifts to the right. At that point the tab on the follower that catches the slide release lever slips, and the follower pops up. You then have to actually pull the magazine free of the gun. It seems like too much tension on the slide release lever could cause this, as it is causing friction on the magazine release, and the catch on the magazine. The only other tension point should be on the magazine spring itself, but you sure wouldn't want to put a reduced power magazine spring in.

I wonder also if perhaps the ejection button tab is not cut right, causing an uneven pressure point on the magazine which pushes the magazine around rather than releasing it. However, when looking at the magazine, I see no signs of wear on the magazine ejection catch, only on the follower slide release tab.

It may be as simple as a new magazine, or a new ejector button, but I think Ruger will be contacted to fix their mistake in either case.

I haven't noticed that problem of sticking magazines but then I have the LC9s Pro which doesn't have a magazine disconnect "feature". Could your magazine disconnect be the problem? Maybe repeated insertions/withdrawals of the magazine will improve the friction issue, whatever it is. Since you will want extra magazines it would be good to buy and try more before you send the pistol off to Ruger.

I disagree. The pistol is malfunctioning and Ruger can deal with it. I'm not spending another dime on it until they have sold me a gun that's right. My last Ruger was screwed up too so I'm developing a chip.

If it comes back and works as it should, then I'll buy her a holster and more magazines.

I don't think the magazine disconnect has anything to do with it, but I'm not a smith. She wants the external safety, and I don't believe the pro version can be had that way. If they don't straighten it out it will likely be sent back again and possibly sold off afterwards.
