I have XD's in 9mm, 357 Sig and .45 ACP. I've found that the .45 won't do well with SWC bullets, since they are designed to be a service gun. Most of my shooting has been with plated bullets from Berry's Manufacturing, with about 15,000 or so through the various XD's. I've never had a problem with them feeding and the accuracy is excellent.
The .45 ACP XD has a very short leade, and won't tolerate bullets with much shoulder sticking out of the case. Mine won't feed SWC bullets, but has never failed to feed any other shape. In fact, I shot it today and yesterday.
I've shot a few lead bullets through the .45, but since I haven't cast any .45 bullets in awhile, I've used mostly the plated. It has cut rifling and won't be a problem shooting lead. The pistols with polygonal rifling, like the Glock, seem to lead faster, and if not cleaned after a few rounds, tend to build pressure rather quickly.
Hope this helps.
