Is there any such thing as lead free .22 Ammo?
With the concern on shooting ranges because of "lead levels" has anybody come up with a lead-free .22 Long Rifle ammo? After all the .22 is the most used in target/plinking shooting cartridge and I'd like to keep mine shooting for along time to come.

If you are talking about rimfires then there are the copperwashed bullets, but they still expose lead when they hit the backstop. A totally jacketed .22 rimfire bullet would raise the prices thru the roof. Look at the .22 magnum prices as they use jacketed bullets.

The big problem is the primers, not the bullets, and besides, the little .22 primers don't really account for much lead at all.

If you are not shooting indoors, lead ingestion from shooting is pretty minimal. It's when one is shooting indoors, where ventilation can be poor (particularly in older ranges) that lead ingestion becomes a major factor.
