Reading the latest American Rifleman about the American Mosin Nagants and there was a single line about the fact that one experimental Pederson device was made for the ole' Mosin. Huh, learn something new everyday.

Chris

the mosin nagant was a cataloged US military rifle.

something along the lines of U.S. Magazine Rifle calibre 7.62mm Model of 1916

mostly training and reserve issue. i hear alaska was a popular location along with the expedition to Archangel in support of the white russians

Yep, there was at least one prototype Mosin Nagant Pederson device made.

I saw an old picture of it once. I can't remember all the details but if I recall the story correctly it was loaned out to an old time gunwriter and while in his possession was stolen. Or maybe it was in his possession when he died and then couldn't be found afterwards. Something like that.

Anyone here ever hear that story?

I used to know what a Pederson device was. I forgot though.

Basically
it replaced the bolt of a bolt action rifle ( 1903, mosin nagants, M1917's and a few others) and would be put in once in the enemy trenches

it could be poped in place and operated as a semi automaic pistol caliber weapon.

it was intended to give the rifle man an up close repeater option with out sacrificing the long range rifle

Oh yeah. Didn't the 1903 Springfield have one of those?

certainly did. limited usage though. almost all the rifles ( and all the 1903's ) had ejection ports cut into the left side of the receiver, and even this experimental rifles with out the device are worth a good deal.

Saw a guy selling a Pederson device at a gunshow about 3 weeks ago.

how much and if you say anything under 2000 i hope you bought it
