I recently found an old Montgomery Ward .22 rifle while helping my wifes grandparents move. They hadn't touched it in 40 years so they gave me first dibs on it.
It was a mosssberg 10 shot clip fed semi auto made around 1958 it had a plastic trigger guard and plastic cap retaining the bolt.
The rifle was in remarkable condition because it had been covered with vegetable oil through and through and it was sealed up tightly in the gummy mess.
They had used an ice pick to scratch their phone number into the stock in 3 places (scrawl would be a better term.)
I took it home disassembled and used crud cutter. Once the oil came off the finish was perfect and the bore was like a mirror.
I sanded the scratched numbers out of the stock and put a walnut colored urathane on it.
Satisfied with the rifles new look I took it to the range and found it got 4 inch groups at 25 yards and was finicky about ammo.
Today I took it to my local gunshop and the owner gave me $50 in trade
So I picked up some shoot n See targets, a leather german police holster for my P38 and an extra magazine for the same, and a clay bird thrower.
Got some cash back too
I'm feeling good about culling some of the junk out of my collection and using it to buy some better items.
Does anyone here have any experience in trading for firearms and acessories or any tips that might help this new hobby?
