So I recently bought a Vortex Razor Gen II with the EBR 2C MRAD reticle. I like it.

I'd like to get another FFP with a christmas tree reticle to mount on a .22 LR to play with at shorter range. What do y'all consider the least expensive option that's worth the money? While I might use this for a NRL22 match, it does not need to be top quality. I'm mostly interested in practicing using the reticle for holdovers and windage rather than dialing in. Suggestions?

My first thought are the Athlon Talos or Argos BTRs.
But I've never used either of those options and I'm not a first focal plane guy. So I really don't know how good they are comparatively.

I have an Athlon Argos BTR on a 30-06 and am thoroughly impressed with it, I bought it on a whim at an estate sale and it sat around for a while before I installed it, I wish I would'nt have waited, I love it, stays zero'd even after a few drops, and is clear enough, there is one for sale in the parts classifieds on here and was seriously considering buying it, as I will be at a jobsite the next few weeks not to far from where its at.

Maybe look at the Cabelas Covenant 4, I have one in a box here, have not used it yet, but wanted an inexpensive Tree as well and the price is right. Now, I am sure it is not made in the USA and again, I have not put it on a rifle yet. so, can't comment on reliability or usability yet, but, price was between 199 and 250.

The Swampfox Patriot FFP scopes are another good option to look at. You have a choice of 4-16x44 or 6-24x50 and choice of MOA or MILDOT reticles. And they are the Christmas tree type reticles. The 4-16 sells for $369 and the 6-24 for $429 directly from Swampfox. The Patriot has parallax settings from 20 yards to infinity.

I have not used the Patriot scopes but have been extremely happy with the multiple red dot sights along with the Blade PRISM scope and Tomahawk 1-4 LPVO scope from Swampfox. And if you are MIL/LEO/VET, you qualify for a 30% discount when you buy directly from Swampfox.

I have an Talos BTR 4-14X44 FFP on my 10/22 that I am using for NRL22. It is a MIL based scope rather than MOA. I put it on last October and for the price is has been a good scope and worked very well for NRL22 competition. It tracks well and has held it's zero despite me banging in on things during the matches (me and cattle-gates don't get along). The tracking-target above was shot at 50 yards with 2.2 mil (3.96 inch) moves. The only thing it's really missing for me is an elevation zero stop. It will focus down to about 10 yards. The "Christmas Tree" is IMHO a nice balance between enough grid without being too busy. The turrets are decent, the clicks are just a touch mushy but still usably tactile but you need a tool (hex-wrench) to zero them. I did mount it on a 20 MOA base to have enough elevation for 200 yards (In hindsight I would do more, like 30-40 MOA). It is not a Night Force but at this price point it has all the features you need and the quality of the optics and turrets are acceptable for NRL22 type shooting.

Thanks, all. Got a line on a second-hand but unused Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 FFP with an EBR-2C MRAD reticle (same reticle as my Razor). It's supposed to focus down to 10 yards. $300 plus shipping sounded like a pretty good deal. We'll see.

Scope arrived and I mounted it this evening. First impression is that the glass is good, the magnification, reticle, and parallax adjustment range are great, and the turrets are a bit mushy ... all what I expected/hoped. My plan is to practice holdovers using the reticle rather than dialing in, so the turrets are not an issue. Hope to get it sighted in this weekend, schedule permitting, and shoot the next NRL22 match in a couple of weeks.
