I have a Lee hand held primer and decided to start loading for my AR 15. I have been using it for loading my .308 with winchester large primers and it works great. Well, I bought the #4 shell holder for it and put in the small pin and primer holder and the darn thing will not let me get the primers in correctly. The go in crooked etc. I decided to get the directions out and started reading. Heaven forbid. But as I read it listed the primers and it did not list the winchester small rifle. It listed the winchester large rifle, cci and winchester pistol etc. It also said not to use Federal at all which is interesting. Has anyone use this device for winchester small primers? I guess I will have to buy another primer for my winchester small primers. Any recommendations for my winchester small primers. I just bought the winchester primers so I would like to use them. Any info would be greatly appreciate. Thanks

Make sure the pin is flat side toward the primers.
Lee hand primers not only have a small and large primer rod, they have small and large primer trays. The tray casting guides the rod, so if you have a small rod in a large tray you may get some misalignment. They're cheap enough that I just bought two, and leave one set up for large and the other for small.
I've used these tools with all varieties of Winchester primers, large/small, rifle/pistol/magnum pistol, and have had no problems with any of them.

I had problems with them back when the rams were made from zinc! :/

I have an older all metal RCBS and only on occasion do I use it. Every couple years I load up some 35 Rem for the upcoming deer season.

Those Lee Auto primes are really inexpensive. My recommendation is to buy a second one, then set one up for large primers and one for small. Keep them clean and lubed up and they'll do you a great job for years. That's what I did and I've been quite happy using them.
