I was going to reload 45-70 . I seen in a Midway flyer they had the Lee lude and size kit with Lee liquid Alox lube. I think it was around $14 cheap. I was wonting to know if eny one uses this setup and how it does.

It will work just fine. You must use the Lee Liquid Alox, or Rooster Jacket film lubes. There may be other lubes of this type that I am not aware of. I have used those two and they work fine. Rooster Jacket is a bit less messy IMHO.

You must use the Lee Liquid Alox

not really....

I'm using mine to seat the gas check and size the bullet and then pan lubing afterwards (w/ 50-50, speed green, Lars red, etc...).

I dab a good bit of Imperial sizing die wax on my index finger and thumb and smear the bullets as I pick them out of my bin and load then onto the post.

The nice thing about the Lee system is that you won't deform the nose of the bullet as they push through from the base.

Also, you get the sizing die, the plastic tub, and a bottle of LLA in the kit..........and........you can use it on any single stage or turret press.

With the lube sizer setup, you have to buy a sizing die and a nose pusher jig thingy....not to mention drop ~$200 for the press.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking lube-sizers and I really want one. But the Lee system gets you up and running for a song.

Check to see if they offer it in .458 or larger for the 45-70.

It's reported to be fairly easy to "beagle" out a Lee bullet sizing die....but I haven't tried it yet.

not really....
Your right. You can go through the trouble to melt the hard lube around the bullets and cut them out. Probably works just fine.

lee lube all the way for me. i have even tried it out in black powder and seems to work ok. So thats all im using. so easy so so easy

I use the Lee sizer and LLA as well. It works great. I bought a Lee C press (cheap) and mounted it upside down under the bench and put a catcher there. The little red top catcher that Lee provides is just too small for my volume.
With that setup, I can size a box of my own cast (500) in less that 15 minutes.

if it helps you can email lee and send a check for $28 and they will custom build any size you spec out for them. I did it for a .512 for my 50-90 sharps

I thank all of you for your input. As soon at I get my NEI mold (460gr with a milpat of .360:evil: I think that this might work on deer) I'll order one of the Lee sizers too.
