Mainly load for my noveske ar15 223. Been doin ok reloading but I'm wanting to stop crimping and go to no crimp with a proper neck tension. I load on a single stage, I'm just looking to reduce runout as much as possible...without turning necks....or do I have to turn? I load with standard rcbs dies.

So I've been hearing some interesting advice about how I can pull out the expander ball, size, then either use a Lee collett neck sizer or others have suggested a Sinclair neck expanding die w proper mandrel after sizing without the expander ball. Does this sound reasonable in reducing run out? And my last question would be even though neck turning might be more precise, would it be absolutely necessary with this kind of set up?

I would check case straightness(run out ) ... case body .... case neck ..... before I went to all the trouble you are saying ... RCBS dies of good quality(like all makers a bad one slips through) should yield a fairly straight body and neck... then I would check what the seating die does seating the bullet straight .... if you have a crooked neck and seat a bullet you will have a crooked round ... if you have a straight case and your seater die seat the bullet off kilter then you will have a crooked round ...

My opinion is that the Forster dies offer best buy for the money as far as straightness ... there are other that cost way more $$, but for the dollar ... Forster is great ...

I don't crimp for any of my AR ... and none of my bolt actions either ... as said above chamfer the insides of the neck good ...

You may be over thinking all this for an AR unless you are shooting benchrest with it ...

The above-linked seating die will help with runout.

When I want neck tension:

- I use Redding bushing dies. Get a few, in .001 increments, for various batches of brass. This enables you to control neck tension.

- Segregate brass. Neck thickness varies.
