Just bought a Lock and Load but already have a set of Lee 9mm dies. The Hornady LNL has a powder drop but I assume its not also an expander. Can I use the Lee powder expander in one of the five stations just for the expanding function? And if yes I aasume it would need to go before the powder drop?

I'm clearly new to progressive reloading, but I've done quite a bit of single state reloading.

Thanks

Current Hornady drop tubes should expand the mouth if the correct tube is selected. Your press instructions or the Hornady web site should clue you in.

Apologizes for an incomplete answer, it has been several years since I used the Hornady tubes as I made my own drop tubes that truly due not expand the case mouth.

Yes, you can use your Lee mouth expander die and it should go before the powder measure as there may not be room in the case for the powder and the expander button.

The down side is you consume a station that you might use a powder check die or a separate crimp die.

FYI, Shortly after shooting the cases, I resize and expand the case mouth at one time and then tumble clean the cases. The cases are then stored for a future loading session.

My drop tubes are designed so that I do not have to adjust the powder measure drop die for a cartridge change or have drop dies for each cartridge.

It works for me but some folks prefer to load from fired case to finished round.

I use standard expanders in station two and drop powder in station three. I don't use the expanding option in the powder drop, not with my 10X, BR-30, or LNL measure.

My drop tubes are designed so that I do not have to adjust the powder measure drop die for a cartridge change or have drop dies for each cartridge.
Same here.

The Hornady LNL has a powder drop but I assume its not also an expander.
The powder measure that came in my Lock N Load AP kit included three drop tubes (one for pistol, two for rifle). These drop tubes do not do case expansion. The kit does include the PTX Powder measure stop so that the powder measure can be used to expand cases if you purchase the PTX Powder Drop Expanders. When using the powder measure to drop powder without expansion the PTX Powder measure stop is not used.

I am also using my Lee 9MM dies with my Lock N Load AP.

I am using the Lee sizing die in station one, the expander die in station two, the powder measure in station three, the seating die in station four and the lee factory crimp die in station four.

This is the same setup as Walkalong as far as stations 2,3.
