I just received my new press and already have it in pcs! Brand new press in pcs. you say?

Yes, the reason for purchasing this new press was because I wanted to see if I could retro-fit it to the old 3 hole turrets. The answer is NO. at least not w/o more work and parts.
To just remove the turret ring and auto index parts won't achieve this as this press is taller than the old Red base press and while the turret ring and auto index from the old 3 hole press will fit the indexing rod is too short. By about 1".
So one would either have to adapt the shorter leg supports from the 3 hole press or manufacture a longer indexing rod. Now I have not measured yet but it looks as though the indexing rod from the Pro1000 will fit only it would have to be turned and threaded on one end for a nut.

Also upon further investigation I could also pretty easily convert this to a Pro1000 with just a turret ring change and a Pro1000 Ram. Would need to change rams as the ram on the Pro1000 is turned down to fit into the shell plate carrier.

Reason behind all this is the old Red bases have been disco'd and made unavailable by Lee along with all other replacement parts and Lee does not sell the Pro1000 press separately as an upgrade. They make you buy the whole complete press with dies, powder measure, carrier and shell plate.

Well I already have spare shell plates and carriers, 4 different powder measures and dies and turrets for 5 different rounds! I don't need another whole press just an upgrade to the press.

Thanks mdi, though I am already a member there also and actually posed that question to the board a year ago w/o a single response. So now that I have actually found a press I will find the answer for myself.

Just thought I would share here in case anyone else got the crazy notion.

Crazy notion to one may be creative thinking to the other. Someone has to try it. Thanks for your post.
