An excellent article from the current issue of "Human Events":

"More than 2000 years ago Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace himself, understood the very real need to take up arms for personal self protection when he advised disciples: "…if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." (Luke 22:36).

"Lawmakers in all but two states have shown they understand the need for self defense by formally recognizing a citizen’s right to carry a pistol.

"Almost 20 years ago, the Oregon legislature understood self defense when it ordered Sheriffs to issue permits to any citizens except felons and nuts.

"And then there’s the Medford School District.

"Last week Medford officials subjected a classroom teacher to threats of arrest and search if she didn’t confess to carrying the gun. The teacher’s ex-husband has threatened her life and she has obtained a restraining order. She also has a permit to carry a pistol, just like an estimated 100,000 Oregonians.

"My research shows that in nearly 20 years of legalized concealed carry in this state, there hasn’t been a single incident where a carry permit holder has assaulted anyone..."

I don't think I will have a problem with my kids teacher carrying..if that person pass the check and is not a nut. Hey I don't have any problems. the problem is we are not allowed to bring a gun inside a school, they have the big 30.06 sign outside.

So it will still be a issue here in Texas. First we will have to do something about that law then we can carry at school. We'll see

If the teacher is willing & able, i would want my kids' teachers packing heat.

Not a slam on teachers but taking the ones I had 27 years ago as an example there were maybe 4 or 5 total that the thought of them having a gun does not send a chill up my back.
However, if qualified under the law to own and carry then I'm all for it.

Im a teacher, willing, able.

Im in NY. Genetically modified pigs will fly before I can CC in any school district.

My research shows that in nearly 20 years of legalized concealed carry in this state, there hasn’t been a single incident where a carry permit holder has assaulted anyone...

Common sense suggests that this isn't true. Over the span of two decades, out of the thousands of CCW holders out there, not one assault? How did he come up the zero figure? I strongly suspect that the author didn't confirm that each assault perpetrator was not a CCW holder.

A statement less prone to being debunked (thereby invalidating the rest of the article) might read: "My research, spanning data collected over twenty years, suggests that carry permit holders commit firearms related assaults at dramatically lower rates than the public at large, despite the permit holders' disproportionately high rate of firearm ownership and widely exercised right to carry concealed weapons in public."

if you cannot CCW in a school then there should be enough police present who will do the job for you.

Cheers to that.

That's why I don't have a problem disarming before entering a police station or court house. I do feel uneasy, though, having to disarm myself before going to school two days every week. At my college we have "security guards" who are, of course, unarmed. We also have police officers in the proportion of perhaps one for every five hundred students. We saw how well that worked out at Virgina Tech.

I have no qualms at all about having a teacher armed since they have passed a background check. How many school districts can say that for their teachers, let alone the administrators who think they know it all. In fact I think it would be better to have as many teachers carrying as possible and if the administrators don't like that maybe they should find another line of work, such as at a prison where there are plenty of armed guards.

College teacher in Texas here. I'll carry. If it ever can happen legally. Had an incident (not recent & I wasn't involved) that turned into a multiple stabbing, but would have been a shooting if the nut (who had no business there) hadn't dropped the gun. I have wondered many times if the incident would have went where it did if there had been a legally armed someone there. There were others near by that subdued the perp, but only after damage had been inflicted on the victim.
