If just having one cutting tool with you in the field which would you choose?
The cattaraugus weighs 11.3 oz and has a 6' blade.

Either will probably do the job. I like the steel a lot better on the Benchmade and think that is a lot of knife for the money. But if you don't want to spend $160 keep using the old one.

A couple of possible compromises.

I really like the Kansbol better. They are basically the same blade shape, but the Garberg is full tang with a thicker blade. For what I do I like the thinner, lighter Kansbol better. And for $35 it is a worthy addition to any collection.

Another vote for the Garberg.
I have the carbon steel in the leather sheath.
It is a serious chunk of steel.

another worth considering would be the Condor Terasaur 1095 carbon steel pretty nice price too.

If I was wanting a Scandinavian style knife, I would buy one made there. Many options in that pattern and many price points. I think the small details will be done better and it will likely give you more satisfaction in the long run.
