Does anyone have experience with the Leupold Rifleman scope series? I saw them at Wally World this afternoon, and from the Leupold website it looks like they just have the old-style friction turret adjustments (coin-style), otherwise fully sealed etc. Are these a good value for the money ($250 for a 4-12 power, 40 or 42mm objective lens, IIRC)?

IIRC, they're really VXIs with less expensive cosmetics. From that standpoint, they're decent scopes. However, given that the VXII's are not that much more $$, I'd probably hold out for a VXII.

they are a step below the vx-1's. mostly cosmetic, but the lens coatings are slightly different. the vx-1 is very closely priced to the rifleman, and is a better scope than the rifleman. spend the extra couple dollars for the vx-1... bernie is correct that the vx-2 is much better yet, and not that much more money...

btw... leupold, along w/ many other companies (like zeiss), participates in map pricing. so, whatever price you see advertised at one place will be the same price everywhere else. however, if you hunt around a bit, you can get leupolds for less than the silly map pricing (zeiss, too)... you might have to know a secret handshake, but there is no good reason to pay the map price on a leupold, zeiss, pentax product.
