Leupold VX1 2x7x33 Mounted On An Air Rifle Question of Durability

So do you think this scope can handle the strange backwards air rifle recoil?

I am thinking of mounting it on a spring piston Gamo Stutzen.

Wow, I wouldn't think twice about mounting a Leuy on a high powered rifle. That Gamo must have a heck of a spring in it or a heck of a weird recoil.

I jacked up a couple of good redfield scopes puttung them on a rws spring air rifle.

It's not that air rifles have massive recoil by any means it has to do with the fact that the recoil pulse is reverse that of a normal rifle, at least this is how I basically understand it, and that can have an adverse affect on scopes not designed for it.

It's not the initial recoil, but the second recoil when the spring and piston reach the end of the stroke and rebound. Very similar to cracking a whip. I have trashed many good scopes on spring piston rifles, I wouldn't try the Leu. unless you could spare it when it broke. I have a whole box of scopes that have crosshairs that no longer cross, or are tilted, are blurry, or make funny rattles. There are dedicated airgun scopes that will take the abuse, they also will focus to within 10 or 15 feet, which comes in handy on an air rifle.

Wait. Check with Leuplod first. I trashed a VII 2 on my Gamo. Some of the HP air rifle sites list scopes that will work. My advice is to buy one that is made to handle the different abuse. The cheap Golden Antler Tasco I have is enough scope (3x9) and has lasted over 2000 rounds. The VXII and Nikon lasted less than 200. Expensive lesson learned.
