Lever Action 9mm???

Does anyone make a lever action rifle or carbine in 9mm? If they are being produced, who makes the "best". If they're not being produced, why not?---Especially considering the popularity of the 9mm ctg. TIA

I've never seen a lever-action 9mm. carbine, and I doubt that one will be produced, for several reasons:

1. If it's tube-fed, the base of the cartridge needs to be rimmed, so as to work on the cartridge stop. If you look at every single tube-magazine lever-action round (.25-20, .32 H&R Magnum, .30-30, .32-20, .35 Remington, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .45 Colt, .454 Casull, .45-70, etc.), all of them have rimmed cartridges. The 9mm. isn't rimmed, so it wouldn't work in tubular magazines. (Of course, in a box magazine, such as the Browning BLR, this might not be a problem.)

2. Again, for tube-fed magazines, the bullet shape is very important - no pointed or round-nose bullets could be used, for fear of recoil forces causing an accidental primer ignition. Box magazines, of course, would eliminate this problem.

3. There's just no demand for it. It's never been an "old-style" plinking or hunting caliber, whereas all the others have been used for that for many, many years.

I think it is mostly Preacherman's No 3, the factories just don't see a demand for it. No 2 applies, there is so much rather sharp FMJ 9mm out there as to be a hazard in a tube magazine.
No 1 does not apply, the .35 Remington is rimless and works fine in Marlins. Ed Harris once converted a .44 Marlin '94 to .45 ACP. It took a LOT of gunsmithing and he would not even post chrono data for hardball because he did not want to give anybody the idea of putting FMJ RN in a tube. But it definitely shot and held many stubby ACPs.

Thanks for the education gents. Too bad about the 9mm not being suitable for a lever action, a 9mm lever gun would be great fun. IMHO

Even if it were possible why would you want it?

The 9mm is a good pistol round not a rifle round. Also Lever actions are fun guns in my mind as they bring you back to the past. Why load a modern pistol round in them. Keep it traditional if you ask me.

I think the rational for a 9 mil carbine is that ammo is cheap and the gun would have a high fun factor.

If power alone was the deciding factor we would not have 22 carbs or levers, which we do.

I personally happen to think 9mm out of the longer barrel of a MI carb- sized rifle would be a cool "in betweener" but plenty cheap to shoot.

If mags interchanged with you handgun, even better.

We have 22 lr levers and semi's and bolts and pump because they are fun guns to shoot cheap and they are good for small game hunting. A 9mm rifle is too much for small game and too little for big game. And for self defense it makes sence in a handgun but in a rifle it makes more sence to have a rifle caliber. Just my opinion.
