45-70 is out for a range toy. 30-30 is very reasonable to shoot at the range with academy monarch ammo, great cases for reloading too. But for a pure range toy the pistol calibers are awesome.
357 is probably the most reasonable caliber. But if you reload and maybe want to cast 45, 44 are real fun. You get the punch of big bore but it doesn't kick in a rifle. The 30-30 and 45-70 kick too much for plinking fun.
All the Rossi 92's I own and have been around were an awesome deal. So cheap you could easily buy casting supplies or 2 of them compared to Henry.
