Decided it's time for a new gun and since I've never owned a lever action I figure it's about time. Looking hard at a Marlin 1894FG in .41 mag.
I alread reload for the .41, it would make a nice companion gun to my Blackhawk.
How effective is the .41 out of a rifle? Maximum range, largest game etc.
I don't hunt often anymore but do get invited along on a Texas hog hunt now & then.
I don't care much for the buckhorn sights, assuming I could install a Lyman peep sight or a tang sight.

Sisco,

I just bought a Marlin 1894FG about a month ago, to go with my older S&W model 57 (6 inch barrel).

My old tired eyes don't work well with iron sights, so I installed a Cabela's red dot sight with 4 reticles. Works great!

I'm still breaking it in as I don't get to the range that often.

I am just starting to reload .41 mag for target shooting. I have used mostly Remington 210 gr factory loads and some Winchester Platinum Tip/Silvertip loads also. The Platinum Tips are 240 grs. with the muzzle velocity of a .44 mag.

Should work good for hogs and deer at ranges out to about 100 yards.

I was able to get my 1894FG for $500. through my local Rod and Gun Club.

Just bought one on Gunbroker.com, $440 including shipping & transfer fees.
I'm like a kid waiting on Christmas now!
