I was fooling around with an adjustable gas block, pretending to know something, when I noticed light primer strikes and/or the bolt not locking back. Ideas?

You need to be more specific about make & model and circumstances in order to get an intelligent and informed reply, of which I have no doubt there are members here who could give you useful advice if they're a little better focused on your problem.

Assuming your taking about an AR. You have adj the gas block too low for the bolt to make the full stroke. Open the block up till it locks back on the last round. Load 1 round and test, repeat. Light strikes can happen if the bolt is not fully forward. Due to design it prevents the hammer from getting a full hit. And prevent out of battery strikes.

Thank you sir. I'll try that. We are supposed to get about 2-4 inches of rain in a short period so it'll be just a bit before I can fully appreciate your advice.
