So with my new 6.5G on it's way, I'm contemplating what scope to use, and would like some input as this isn't an arena I've played in before.

The rifles primary task will be hunting stuff under 100lbs, 0-300yds.
Secondary is target shooting and plinking out as far as I can find stuff to shoot at.
I may use it for pigs, deer, or other stuff, so some flexibility is preferred.

I've got a vx-f 2-7x32 which will work well enough I think, it's also one if the leupolds I've used that I've seen thru well.
I'm considering a vx-3i 2-8x36, and a swfa 3-9x32 ultralight also.
I would ideally like max power somewhere in the 12-14 range, but it doesn't seem likely that I'll be able to get there while sticking with the light weight requirement, and I'd rather give up magnification over optical quality, or size/weight, in this application.

Price can be in the 500 range.

Yall got any other suggestions.

The rimfires we're supposed to have the same reinforcement and build quality of the centerfire scopes, only real difference is they are focused at 50 or 75yds I believe.

Sightron STAC 2-10x32, 1 lb. $299
Zeiss Terra 2-7x32, 13.4 oz. $230
Zeiss Terra 3-9x42, 14.8 oz. $230
Burris Timberline 4.5-14x32, 15 oz. $279

None of them incredibly lightweight but several in spitting distance of you 11.1 oz VX-F with as much or more magnification.

If you're not terribly stuck on Leupold there are an ungodly amount of choices that offer quality glass in fixed and variable X. I have nothing against Leupold, they're just not the only quality glass out there.
I would shop around on optics planet and find one that suits your needs, they have very good spec sheets on every scope. SWFA sells a lot of different brands also. I'd take a look.
If you're dead set on Leupold I can't blame you. Helluva warranty and awesome glass but very expensive.
I personally think they have done their job in marketing making people believe they have to spend more on a scope than they really need to get the job done. Too many gizmos and gadgets IMO. at least for me.
Good luck with it, I hope you find what you are looking for.
Happy shooting!

Thanks guys, I've been looking round a little, and again small, light scopes arnt really a thing I've purchased all that often.
Most of my rigs run 10+ lbs lol, I'm trying to keep this Grendel under 7-7.5

The Timberline looks interesting, even if it is heavier.
If I'm going to go close to 1lb or so there are more options, but nothing as compact or with that high a power rangers that IM aware of.

The ziess have rather large oculars Wich maybe an issue with the 527s bolt handle, but they are also one of those scopes I've wanted to try.

Don't tell anyone, but I'm really not much of a Leupold fan. Only the newest ones have really looked good to my eyes....I do keep trying them Tho lol
Leupys are offten lighter than other options, but I'm open to anything.

The swfa ultralight would be the winner except it's only got 2.5" of eye relief at max power. Still might end up that way as it's the lightest scope I've seen so far, and isn't horribly expensive.

Another option I'm considering, tho they are a little large, are the weaver v9s and 10s. The 2-10x38s only like 11.5 oz

I won't tell if you don't. We're gonna have all the Leupold fans beating us up with hate mail if it gets out! Lol.
Seriously, I always compare a comparable Leupold when I consider a new scope. I have a bunch of shooting buddies who live and breathe the things and I test em out but always wind up with something else. Last shot I gave them I would up with a Sig Whiskey. The Sig was better glass to me and of course it cost less. Whatever treatment sig does to that glass is pretty darn amazing.
I'm a pretty good fan of Nikon as well. Even their low end is very good for the price point. Burris can be good but you have to go up in price to compare, same with Weaver.
As I said, many choices these days.

I kinda quit using Nikon's, even tho I see very well thru them, because of the bulbous proportions of the newer generation. One of my on hand options is actually a Nikon 2015 buckmasters 3-9x40.
I've used and liked Weaver's but don't currently own one.

Might try one of the new bushnells, the engage is 11 oz

Good to know on the bolt handle, that's been one of my major concerns as j prefer lowish optics

Yeah that's what I've been looking at, my Amazon cards got some space on it too.

Just specd the Bushnell engage 2-7x36 and it looks pretty good actually... ... Wonder if anyone has tried one.

Looked through one the other day, almost took it but she made me a deal on that Sig Whiskey I couldn't pass up.
Nice piece of glass that Bushnell engage. I think they are hard to get right now so I've heard.
how was the eye relief, that's really the only thing i don't like about bushnells, they tend to have short eye relief.

that sucks, i am tight necked plus got lost of padding. i need all the ER i can get.

I would not recommend that scope for you then.
I'm glad I went with the Sig.
Had a lot better eye relief and it went on a Ruger No 1 B. I had to go with an EGW pic rail to replace the factory rib to get it back far enough with that even. I ran out of extension bases

ya i showed my friend the box you sent me with the the scope. he liked it and got one, the ER is nice, id like it on my AR.
I used the scope on my .458 ar, worked wonderfully.
I'm tempted to try the bushy, and see how well I like it at 110 bucks if its not up to what I want I can order the leupy and put the bushy on something else.
