I’m looking for a new option for my rifle package. I’m trying to stay as light as possible. The magnifications I’m looking for are in the 1-8,2-7,3-9 area. Any suggestions?

Leupold has some good options for lighter scopes. I have an Athlon Argos 2-10x40, on my 06 and it's 15....or 12oz...cant remeber, which is pretty light. I don't care for the sticky out, squishy turrets tho.

The Burris FF2 3-9 is 13oz, and I BELIEVE there is a leupy in the 9-12.range

I like the grandslams, but that new eye piece.......
I guess that's the style tho, I sorta quit using Nikon's because of the big bells also.

I have a leupold 2-7 x 28mm compact that is about 8 ounces. A good fit on the little Adirondack. Not as bright over 4-5x compared to larger scopes, but compromise must be made somewhere. Optically Its better than my eyes in the center. I dont care about edges as i dont shoot there.

I have two Leupold VX-2 2-7x33mm which are under 10 oz and a VX-3i 3.5-10x40mm that runs 12.6 oz. Great scopes. The Leupold VX-3i 2.5-8x36mm is another great option and will likely be my next purchase for a Win 70 in .280 Rem that could use some better glass.

Leupold will have some of the lightest scopes out there of quality. If lightweight is the goal I would look heavily towards Leupold.

In the optics realm I consider Leupold and Vortex's, when comparing weight Vortex isn't even close.

A Leupold 3-9X40 will run about 11 oz, A fraction less for a 2-7X32. Not many options for a 1-8X in a lightweight, most, if not all are going to be on 30mm tubes and weigh around 16 oz. But a 1-4X20 Leupold is in the 9 oz range. For the magnification you want find anything lighter than a Leupold.

For light weight, I couldn’t be happier than with fixed power Leupold. 2.5x, 3x and 4x.

Leupold FX-II Ultralight 2.5x20mm, FX-II 3x20, and FX-II 4x33.

I think the 4x is about 9 ounces...and my 2.5x is around 6 ounces.

Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 models are selling for about $200 and weigh about 12 oz. Excellent glass, reasonable price, and terrific warranty. The 2-7x33 is only an ounce less. It's hard to make a recommendation without knowing what your specific use is intended to be. I have two 8.5oz Leupold VX-1 2-7x28s on my ultralite rimfires, but for an additional 3.5oz, the 3-9x40 gives a lot more usable view for hunting.
