Ran in to my local gunshop for a box of buckshot in a case he had a never assembled model 37 winchester with the box in 28 ga $64.99 on the original price tag. I offered to tripple that :D

I'd say you did well. Congrats!

We're gonna need some pics in order to believe you though
they laughed at my offer cool little gun I have a problem with unfired guns they don't stay that way around me it was priced @ $2K

rare 28 guage

If the one you saw is a Model 37 red letter, unfired then I would put the value at $1500 easily. I paid $600 for a similar model 37, 28 gauge a few years ago (non red letter) in near new condition but no box or tag.

The non red letter 28ga is more rare than red lettered Winchester on the "trigger plate". Most Winchester guys would say boxed 28ga Model 37 at 2k is not unreasonable.
Prices on some Winchester shotguns are shocking. I was once shown double barrel with blued receiver and very nice wood. The price was almost 6k. I asked the guy why and he said it was the strongest and best put together SxS made anywhere. He showed me dovetail barrel construction. I thought to myself gee just like those in our least expensive BSA from Birmingham (very famous English gun and bicycle maker).

You should have laughed at their asking price. Ridiculous.
I have no dobt they will get it I have seen good shape 37's in 28 with out the box bring $1400-$1600 I think the box would bring $400-$500 on ebay

I've got a Winchester model 21 that's worth more than that. Fine SxS and O/U shotguns are very expensive.

While I have never paid that much I know several men in my general area that would jump on it. One man that has passed on now could take a Model 37 and turn it into a championship shooter. He and others take these Turkey Shoots very seriously, and the Winchester 37 is most often one of the best shooters even without modification.

I think $2k is on the low end if it's precisely as described. Where's the shop? My uncle would love it - he collects the things.

I don't want it, I'm buying a mod-v jon boat and trailer this weekend. Bass Pro's sale includes a 9.9 Merc for $1737. That's $500 off yesterday's price. That and a 80# Minn Kota trolling motor and I'm set for the local reservoirs.
