Well, just wanna share with you an encounter that i have with a "gun nut" or enthusiast :). Anyway i work at a restaurant. Once a while we got an older gent (mid 60's) who comes in and ask for a check for services rendered (HVAC). Very low key he seems. Anyway i was out on a range one Sunday and there he was, chatting with the R/O. I said hi and asked if it was really him and so the small talk began. He said he was shooting at the 400 yd lane :what:I didn't even know "my" range goes that far. He said he's there every Sunday and he was about to leave. I said, well, join us (i'm with a buddy that day) and that he can go shoot ours at the handgun lane. So he shot a mag, then came back to his car and took out his handguns. I couldn't remember what the 2nd gun was but he pulled out his sig P220 (1911 style sig ?) and he handed it to us to try it. After that he left.

Well, about 2 days later he came back and i was working. He got his check, walked out and walked right back in. He got 2 big photo albums (like scrap book/ wedding size album). and OMG, he took pics of his rifles/ guns from different angle, with fact sheet at the bottom right corner complete with calibers, country issued, arsenal, etc. Oh the first page of both albums are marked with BOLDLY printed 2nd amd.
Did i mention the 2 huge albums (filled from first to the last page) are his SEMI auto version ? he said he got some more selective fire "toys" that he wouldn't show people for security purposes even though he mentioned he got class 3 license. He said he's been collecting for the past 12 years.
some of his findings:
* original Barret .50 cal (M82 A1 ???)
* M24 Remington sniper rifle. He said he got lucky on this one. Remington shipped him a barrel with M24 engraved on the barrel (i saw the pic as well). He said Remington offered to give him a brand new rifle +$1,000 if he would return the gun or the barrel back to Remington.
* Chinese SKS with the box (cleaning kit, pouch, all original army issued trinkets)
* auth. Russian AK 47 (intercepted by the Israelis when it was about to be delivered to Hamas - he got the certificate for that as well).
* M1 garand Sniper with standard issue scope.
* Luger with matching serial and parts (parts are numbered)
* I forgot but if you see the movie "defiance", there's a pistol that looked like a scaled down beretta 92 with extended barrel (Daniel Craig's character when he shot the insubordinate) with the Nazi logo.
* Galil sniper
* Chinese Dragunov
* Beretta package kit that they use to "butter up" army officials so they would adopt the design.
* A handgun with the "delta" mark on the slide or grip (red triangle inside a circle).
* Sig 226 i think with "anchor" etched on the slide (I was told it was issued for the SEAL).

What's great about his collection is that he carefully hunted for the best quality milsurp weapons. Matching serial number, great condition (bluing).

Anyway, my jaw almost dropped as i opened the book page by page. After all that, he said if i see him at the range on Sunday, he'll let me shoot whatever he has at the range. Can't wait till i can get back there.

I feel a little pull of envy also.

I remember a individual like that from long ago. In what little time I had with him, he showed me much.

living, walking museums indeed.
