Hi, all -

I have a box of old Bear Creek lead (no gas check) bullets that are 215 grains. I can't find any load data for them. Can someone suggest a good plinking load using Titegroup or W231 (since that's what I have now)?

Thanks.

Heh! Can you tell it's been that kind of day for me?

.44 magnum. Thanks again.

www.hodgdon.com has cast bullet loads for 200gr and 240gr using W231/HP-38.

I would use the starting load of 5.5gr that's listed under the 240 LSWC and work up if the accuracy/velocity is not what you want. You'll probably get 850-900 FPS with the 215gr bullet with that charge.

You also will find data for Titegroup there, should you want to try that powder too.

You just have to be careful when using the faster powders in the big bores.

The following have worked with a 215 LSWC in my 6" model 29:

11.3 grains HS6 (Fed LR primers), v. easy shooting
4.8-5 grains Red Dot (WIN LR primers), v. easy shooting
8 grains of Silhouette (WIN LR primers), light and easy, no flash
7.45 grains 700x (Fed LR primers), easy handling but flattened primers

I see no reason to beat myself up with full powered loads in a .44mag, so I tend to stick with light loads. I can shoot these all day long, no problems.
