The press we have is not the classic you are correct. It is just the four hole turret press. I was not aware it is smaller, or the smallest press you can get. From looking at the various websites, it has 3 1/2 inches of ram throw. The same as the classic press. Sounds like the classic press shown by someone earlier in a photo in this thread must be made a little differently because there is no way we can use the auto indexing feature on ours reloading 45-70 it just isn't possible, the round gets wedged in our press every time we go to seat the bullet in the loaded brass.
Someone else said they have the rockchucker press here, which is what we are thinking about getting for 2 reasons.
1. To be completely honest neither me nor my dad are really too impressed with the quality of some of the Lee products we have gotten thus far. Sort of learning the hard way you get what you pay for.
2. The RCBS Rockchucker press says it has 4 inches of throw, which we think will make reloading the larger cartridges we are reloading a little easier. But I am taking the advice of another poster here in this thread seriously when he says even with his extra 1/2 inch he barely has room in his press also, in reloading some of the larger cartridges.
Soooooo it brings my father and I back full circle, and we just need to decide if what we have now is good enuf, or should we buy another press to compliment the Lee 4 hole turret we already have. Now after using it some more, it is doing the job. But would we like the RCBS line of products better? That is the question. Over and over and over again people we know keep telling us they prefer the RCBS stuff over Lee.
