Hello,

I am buying my first suppressor and just had a barrel extension added to my CA-75B. The instructions that came with it say to use locktite blue on the barrel threads to prevent the extension from unscrewing with the suppressor. The issue is that if I do that I have to break the locktite each time I want to clean the barrel as it is not removable with the extension in place. Is it necessary to locktite the extension as opposed to snugging it down well? Thanks for the advice.

I know NOTHING about NFA firearms, but I've found over many years of attempting to do it my way, when all else fails read and understand the factory directions.

I also like the theory of start small and work your way up, as needed. So I would start by using clear nail polish before using BLUE Locktite.

Worst case without the locktite is the extension comes off with the supressor. So long as you can get a grip on that extension with something to unscrew it and you are ok with this possability there is no issue. Even without a way to grip it, if it comes off in the supressor you put the locktite on it and screw it back on and let it set. (I'm assuming all threads are set to tighten with firing)

Blue locktite is great stuff through, try it out and if you don't like the difficulty try without.

Thread seal tape doesn't keep threads from backing out. It acts as a lubricant/anti-seize and sealant. IMHO it wouldn't be much good in this application.

blue loctite is removable on threads over 1/4. Maybe they are working from the point the heat will weaken it , unless it is marked high heat loctite lets go At 400 degrees

Are you using the thread locker to lock the can to the barrel or an adapter to the barrel?

I use green sleeve retainer to lock any adapters to the barrel. I use synthetic oil on the threads of the can to the barrel to prevent it from seizing. I never have problems with my cans coming loose using the oil.

Pays to follow instructions

Loctite® Threadlocker Blue 242® is designed for the locking and sealing of threaded fasteners which require normal disassembly with standard hand tools. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces. It protects threads from rust and corrosion and prevents loosening from shock and vibration. Loctite® Threadlocker Blue 242® is particularly suited for applications on less active substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces, where disassembly is required for servicing.

It also won't hold up to the extreme heats the suppressor will get to VERY quickly. It will melt and turn into a messy goo. I have seen it.
