Email exchange with a friend of mine in which I was discussing possibly getting a new barrel for my AR-10. The 18" Bull is super accurate, but loud and has a lot of flash. It's also in .308.

I was considering a nice long barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor, but he said "long barrels look ugly on ARs". I've never thought that, and to be fair he's not an AR guru or anything, but ....

Anyone have any pictures to share, please do!

Sorry, don't have any long barreled AR's, but a 20" 6.5 Creedmoor with a 13"-15" rail would look pretty good IMO.

I found this one example, over at The Firing Line forum, and it's a 24" barrel according to the text.

I am planning on having a flash-hider on it, but not a full suppressor as I'm not interested in the hassle and paperwork.

So this is useful, it's an AR-15 for the 6.5G.

Here are mine, one AR15 one AR10. Both have 24" barrels.

I really like the looks of this gun. Any adverse affects to having the pencil profile barrel? Not sure I'm into the rage of the heavy bull barrels but I would love a 20"er.

Anything over 16 inches seems to be a long barrel these days. I'm guilty of that myself - my only AR is a 16-inch carbine - but I'd like to get a 20-inch rifle too.

Bruh, what a good AR. Accuracy?

Honestly, I just put it together 2 days ago and have not fired it yet:D. If my past experience with a Faxon 16" pencil and a Faxon Gov 18" is any indication, this should be sub moa with quality ammo. Faxon 20", with .625 pinned gas block. Faxon barrels are really nice, they have been performing right on the arse of my LaRue barrels. Larue still hols a slight accuracy edge, but at near twice the price, it should.

I prefer the 20 inch AR to anything else.

Currently I have one 18 inch 3-gun style rifle with 1-3 Weaver Scope that shoots 5/8 MOA three shot groups with bulk Hornady 55 Grain SPs and IMR-4895, two 20 inch A2s with Magpul furniture that shoot around 1.5 MOA with the above handload, and a 16 inch Bushmaster A2 that is way overgassed and "barky" even with non 5.56 ammo and an H Buffer, shoots around 3 MOA on a good day with the above handload, and will be converted to a 20 inch A2 also.

I felt it appropriate to replace the Bushmaster barrel with a barrel from Windham Weaponry. Most people on THR know that story :).

Some really nice rifles in this thread.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I always thought the 20" (as is my gun) was "standard". The 18" and under were into the short group and the long were in the 24" and up.

However, the norm now days seems to be 16". shows you what I know.

All of them are fun to shoot...I do know that much! :D

I went with a nice middle of the road, an 18" 1/7 (wanted 1/8 but oh well) with a rifle gas system and the old standard A2 flash hider. It is going to get longer once I get the Gemtech purchase process started.

Closest photo I have to completion, BCG was in the mail at the time. Itching to get it to the range this week and see what she likes.

Cannot begin to tell you how pleased I am to have an AR in the safe again.

Do you need to replace your 18"? Not sure, if you like it well enough, keep it. If it is too loud/bright, seek out a better flash hider. The write up, video, pictures on TTAG sold me on just keeping my A2 FH: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/06/jeremy-s/ar-15-flash-hider-shootout/

Of course you could also just get a can for it. I figure why not do it now before things get really fun.

My first AR-15, as I got it. Lets just say it was a learning experience, and it doesn't get shot much, but one of these days I'll get into it and make something of it.
