Long Range Rifle/Scope/PRS question(s)

During a 22 min COF for an F Class match it’s been my practice to get up and stretch at least once because being prone in a shooting position for that long has caused me some discomfort.

Hearing @Varminterror recount some of the PRS guy’s afflictions I don’t feel so sorry for myself
i can’t imagine laying on my belly for 22 minutes without a pillow. Lol

competition is where I realize how few skills I have
Well, it does that too, just part of it. When I was getting into Benchrest a very good shooter told me that if I was going to do this get ready to eat a lot of humble pie. Well, I did, but I also had successes, and I loved the competition.

Kind of reminds me of the Tom Hanks line in A Leauge of Their Own..... It's the hard that makes it great. I have experienced it playing baseball all those years, the big catches/defensive plays and big hits in a big spot are so rewarding because it is indeed hard.

Failure comes with life, no way around it. :)

It sure as hell empties a wallet

Speaking of which, I just got back from a week long trip to AL & GA and this was sitting on the desk in my office. I like that it ships with Tenebraex lens caps, one less thing to worry about. I'll be mounting this scope on my AI AWM in .338 Lapua Mag using the Spuhr mount shown. It will be a good combination.

I went to the Steyr shoot at the CMP Talladega range this past Saturday and shot a .50 BMG bolt action rifle for the first time. Now I really want an Accuracy International AX50. :D That will be a while though since it's kind of pricey.

Fortunately I was able to return the other NF and get this one instead and I'll be sure to provide some feedback. I haven't shot the AWM .338 LM for a while, so now I have an excuse or reason to shoot it. My plan for this year is to get "match" loads worked up for all four Accuracy International rifles. So far I have a great load for the AXMC (6.5x47) and need to check the load I worked up for the AWM .338 LM a few years back. I want to work up a new load for the AW in 6.5 CM since I now have SRP Lapua brass for it along with H4350. I never got around to working up a .300 WM load for the AWM so that'll be a first. Lots to do, so little time.

I don't care for the some hashes on this side and some on that side design of the new Nightforce reticle. My brain just doesn't like it. I prefer hashes all the way through and evenly on both sides, my brain "sees" that better. I dislike the way they do uneven hashes on my XRS II as well. And the little funky bold dots near the center make no sense. I like nice and even, my brain just works that way. Maybe it is just my OCD or something.

This is the reticle on the Vortex I put on the Seekins. I like the hashes better on this one. Dots on the tree are ok, but so are hashes, if they are even.

The tree on the Bushnell looks broken to my brain at first glance.

I think that Vortex does a good job with reticles. I like the EBR-7C in the RAZOR HD GEN 2 scopes that I have. Here's the NF MIL-XT reticle. I think the horizontal stadia are quite clever in that they have 0.2 mil spacing but by placing lines above and below the horizontal axis there's less chance of getting visually "lost" when holding off. The reticle appears to be best suited for dialing elevation and holding off for windage, or dialing windage and holding over for elevation. That said, in a pinch one could hold for both.

I never practiced with my Benchrest rifle, only shot in club shoots or registered matches. Some was me, some was cost, being a young man with a young wife and two little kids. :)

Sam is working on a place to shoot where we can practice, his buddy has the land, we just need to do some bush hogging etc, and Sam is wrapped up with being a District Chief at the fire dept, running the dive team at the fire dept (teaching dive class right now for recovering missing persons in lakes/rivers), being in the Marine reserves, a wife, five kids..... :)

It sounded like you didn’t need practice hitting the targets as much as hitting them faster. You can practice getting into positions indoors. And pulling the trigger straight back

as much as hitting them faster
Yes, speed is where I need to improve the most. I knew going in the time limit would bite me, and did not really try to go fast/beat the clock vs just some get hits. Now I know a lot more of how I need to improve.
