lookin for a browning rifle

Last year, I bought a nice 95% ABolt Medallion for $400. Put a VXIII on it and you're well under a grand.

My .243 is an Abolt Medallion and I have to admit its a very nice rifle. I think the twist is 1:10 and its very accurate with everything from 58gr Vmax varmint bullets to 100gr deer bullets. Relatively light, as well - 6.75lbs or so for the rifle, maybe 7.25-7.5lbs with scope.

If she has her heart set on a Browning I don't see any harm in her looking at others however, at the end of the day if she still wants and likes the Browning I wouldn't try to talk her out of it.

I know I've been in situations like that where I want a particular something and usually I'm not happy until I get it so if I buy something else cheaper that may be just as good it usually costs me more as I usually am not happy with it and still have to buy what I originally wanted.

As for Browning's. I like the BAR's as mentioned. Great hunting rifles however my experience with them and from several others I've talked to is that they just aren't that accurate. I'd expect 2-3" groups from them at 100 yards. Now some guys get under 1" groups and some will say they are as accurate as a bolt action so some may be. Then there are quite a few others complaining of lack of accuracy and get 2-3" groups. This is still decent and perfectly fine in most cases for a hunting rifle. IMO the BAR's are great looking and good hunting rifles. However, if I wanted one for paper punching I'm not sure I'd get one.

Seems like some people get lucky and get really accurate ones and some don't.

I've not tried any of the newer ones with the BOSS system but from what I've read that seems to help out some.

The Abolt's and Xbolt's are nice if you want a bolt action also. I think see which one fits her best. I'm not sure you can go wrong with either.

I tend to say I'd look into .243 or .270 or even 30-06. Depends on how worried she is about recoil. The BAR will also help with recoil somewhat as others have said.

The thing I don't like about 7mm-08 as well as others similar to that like 25-06, etc. Is the fact that they aren't always easy to come by. You can pretty much go to any store that sells ammo and unless they are sold out they usually have 30-06, .243, .270 and the main cartridges like that. Some of the others while great choices are harder to fine ammo for. If you hand load this is a non concern. If you don't and may need to pick up ammo while on a hunt or something like that I like to have a caliber that is common and easy to find ammo for.
