I'm toying with getting a Rem R15 VTR. in 223. Its the varmint style AR with the camo.

I'm looking to use it for target and possibly hunting. I'm not aware of any coyotes in my area.

The rifle is the one with the 22 inch fluted barrel. I was mainly looking for a standard type AR with a 20 inch barrel but I came across the R15 at a Dicks store for $1049. I just haven't seen anything out there that compares price wise. I know that its made by Bushmaster and is similar to the Bushy Varmint model.

So any ideas? Should I go for it? What do you think.

If it's anything like my Bushmaster Varminter with the 24" barrel, go for it. My only grip with the Remy versions is the camo they put it.

Hi ArmedBear, thanks for the response! I had considered something like this but isn't there kind of a long wait for something like that?

I think the R-15 is an adaptation of the Bushmaster, not the same rifle with a different label. The trigger, for example, may be different. It all comes down to whether you like it or not.

I looked at one, but it didn't trip my trigger so to speak.

I consider the .223 to be a good coyote rifle, the four legged kind, not the two legged ones that smuggle illegal aliens in to our country.

I ended up with just a plain M4 as paint jobs aren't what usually attract me to rifles. Enjoy your new coyote gun and let us know how you like it.

If you can live with the camo, then go for it. They should really offer it in something else besides camo.

Then it would be a EBR, and Remington only makes sporting guns :)

Of course if you want it in black, go to DPMS their sister company.

After some input I made a decision.

I was looking for something with a 20 inch barrel. The R15 has a 22 inch.

But I got such a good deal on the following I had to get it! (Under $900)

Its a Stag Arms Model 1L (I shoot lefty)

Nice, and congratulations.

I too shoot lefty, but try to run with right handed guns by adapting. I do this because as a kid I saw more than one hunter slap the left side of his bolt action rifle if he was used to using a left handed bolt and had to borrow a rifle for some reason.

I do of course make some modifications to my guns to help me run the right handed gun as a lefty. Namely I do an ambi safety, if I can, but not much else.

Now go shooting and give us a Range Report. :)

Oh yea, and I used to shoot as a lefty, but since converted to the "right" side, and I'm left-eyed dominate, but can see better out of my right eye, pisses me off:banghead:

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I'm also contemplating purchasing a Remington VTR as my first AR. Does anyone know what the barrel ratio is (1:8, 1:7, or something else)?
