I am looking to try some different loads for my xd40 4in.I have loaded 155gr berry plated bullets with 7.2 grains of accurate#5with good results but want to try some different powders.any suggestions?

I load a cast bullet (145 grains) that gives good results in the wife's Beretta 96 IA Elite....with 5.0 grains of W231 ymmv :)

6.5 grains of Unique behind a 155 grain plated is sweet, mimics a self defense load, accurate. They chrono about 1080 fps out of my XD 4".

3.8gr Clays under a 155gr Rainier FP at 1.125" You may have to adjust for your recoil spring's strength, but that is my favorite soft shooter.

1. 150 gr. Nosler JHP, 7.7 WSF, 1232 fps – max load
2. 155 gr. Miester LRN, 6.5 gr. WSF, 1105 fps
3. 180 gr. Magtech JTC, 7.5 gr. HS6, 1011 fps
4. 165 gr. Win JTC, 6.3 gr. WSF – nice to shoot, accurate
5. 165 gr. Rainier, 6.8 gr. Unique – nice to shoot, accurate
6. 180 gr. Rem FMJ, 7.0 gr. PowerPistol – high recoil
7. 135 gr. Nosler, 8.8 gr. PowerPistol – very accurate
These are accurate loads that serve a variety of needs as you can tell from the data.
Firearm – Glock model 22 with KKM barrel
Note: HS6 meters best by far

so far in my .40 witness silver team my best is

6.7 gr AA5 rainier 155gr
4.9gr universal rainier 165gr
5.7gr universal rainier 155gr
working on win231 4.9gr rainier 155gr but to light would not cycle action everytime, going to try 5.2 grains next, even though I got great goups
also working on win231 4.6gr with rainier 165gr also too light to cycle action going to try 5gr next.

NOT looking for another fps,but looking for better all around performance in an XD that will shoot accurate and SAFE.To the others Thanks I am going to try unique this weekend.I'll let ya know how it goes.

I've been using Unique and Titegroup with plated bullets. Accurracy so far with my Daughter in law's XD40 has been so-so. Started out with 180 grain and now am trying 165 grain bullets. I'd like to hear what you came up with so I can add 50% more powder and have a killer load. ha, ha.

My Witness Elite Match will shoot Zero 165 Gr JHP's lights out with Universal Clays. I got my load from the Speer #13 manual. I just checked Hodgdon's data online and my load is over their max, so I won't be sharing it.

Just add maybe 50% to the listed max charge of any book load, that would be dumb but it sure would be hot. Or, why not accept that the people who research the data put in the loading manuals know what they are doing instead of asking the net who among us is risking life and limb for another pointless 50fps in an already hot cartridge?

Hey Ranger

Step back from the computer and take a valium. Why the hell do you think this board exists? God forbid someone asks a RELOADING question on a RELOADING forum. If you don't like the questions in this forum don't reply, or just go away. There is no need to berate this guy for wanting to know what other RELOADERS that read this RELOADING forum are having luck with.

I for one, have many manuals, most of them contradict each other or do not have the info for the combination I am using. So I sometimes ask for input from people who have been doing this longer than me. Then I check their suggestions against my books and the powder manufacturers website to determine if if it a safe load.

If you don't like people asking RELOADING questions on a RELOADING forum you may want to go elsewhere.

Just a suggestion though.
