looking for a double barrel .410 bore/.45 colt

I've been looking for a double barrel long arm that chambers both .410 bore shots and slugs as well as .45 colt cartridges. I've seen revolvers and derringers. I've seen single shot. I have not seen a double barrel long arm that can chamber .45 colt and .410 bore.

Does such a beast exist?

I know someone is going to ask why I want such a weapon so I'll say, "do I need a reason?"

I've thought about where I should post this as such a weapon may not be truly a shotgun. I thought this is where I'd get the best responses. If this belongs elsewhere then please move to where it would be most appropriate.

I think it may not exist because it's sort of a novelty firearm...

If it is rifled, then it'll pattern terribly with .410 (rifled bores make shotgun patterns have an empty spot in the middle).

If it is smoothbore, then the bullet doesn't spin and it won't be very accurate.

I realize that what I seek is mostly of interest as a novelty, however I have seen many handguns chambered for both .410 and .45 but not one long arm. I find that odd since a long arm of that style would not fall under the restrictive handgun, SBR, SBS, or AOW laws. It could be called a rifle or a shotgun and be cheap, as far as taxes go. How hard can it be to make a .410 double barrel shotgun and fire a few .45 colts through it to make sure it can hold up to the mildly higher pressures and roll stamp it for that caliber?

I thought .410 bore shotguns were popular for skeet shooting because it added a bit of a challenge. Perhaps it's that such people want pump action for a third shot.

I realize that a rifled barrel would make for a pretty bad shot pattern but nothing prevents threading the barrel for the insert of a choke. That is exactly what the single shot .410/.45 TC Encore barrel does.

I just find it odd that no one makes what I seek. I've found that if someone desires something then there are those that want to sell it to them, no matter how odd the object of desire. I've seen some odd firearms out there, I wouldn't think what I want is all that odd.

Well, it may not be odd, but I can't think of any current ,or early ,examples of this gun being produced. If I recall correctly there maybe are early examples of this chambering in some single shot break open guns. No doubles that I know of.

Saw a side by side derringer once at a gun show wanted 150 for it. Think it was a "Cobra". Looked like a cheap POS, though, and pretty worthless past handshake range.

I've seen plenty of handguns that have a .410/.45 chamber. I'm looking for a long arm, something with a barrel in the 16 to 20 inch range and a stock.

Just finding a shotgun that chambers .410 is difficult. I guess they are not very popular.

Just get a 20 and use slugs if you want a "rifle". In my experience with a TC barrel, .45 colt is pretty inaccurate out of a .410 chamber, anyway, not any better than a foster slug out of a smooth bore. Excessive freebore is the problem.

Sure, but where's the fun in that?

It's not about being practical, it's the novelty. It's about going to the range and dropping a .45 colt in one barrel and a .410 slug in the other. It's about putting a different choke in each tube and seeing what I can hit. It's about showing it to someone and having them say, "nice shotgun" and responding with, "it's not exactly a shotgun".

I'll keep an eye out for what I seek but I don't expect to find one real soon. Considering that the double barrel shotguns I've seen seem to go for 10x the price of a pump action I'm not sure I could justify the price even if I do find what I want.

After some looking around I've come to the conclusion that I will not find exactly what I'm looking for. Looks like I'll have to settle for a single barrel. This is what's at the top of my list, a H&R Survivor SB1-41N

It's got a 20 inch barrel, 3 inch chamber, seems to have gotten favorable reviews (excepting the quality of the wooden stock) and sells for less than $200.

I don't know if anyone even cares about this thread, I'm posting here mostly for my benefit so I can find the model number again should I lose my notes.
