Looking for a scope mount for a No4 Mk1* that has had the charger bridge and rear sight removed.

I recently came into a No4 Mk1* SMLE that has been sporterized as a partial trade. Someone before the previous owner sporterized the thing and has removed A LOT of metal: bayonet lugs, charging bridge, rear sight ears. That said, I can't aim the thing with just a front (crude) aftermarket post, so I'm trying to find a decent scope mount. But they all seem to require either the rear sight ears or charging bridge as part of the mounting base. Any ideas or recommendations? If nothing else I'm going to have my local gunsmith drill and tap another hole in the side of the receiver to mount a Badace Mount and mill off the extra parts of the mount that wouldn't be needed.

Before it went away the 303 rifle forum had an article about making a mount out of 1X1 angle iron. I built one many years ago. It worked. BUT, I cannot find that article anymore.
