Looking to get a new shotgun. I have pumps and have been battling with the O/U vs Semi-auto. I have decided on an O/U and was wanting some more info on the CZ shotguns. They are fairly priced and great guns from what I have read in other posts. I would like any experience, personal or second hand, on these shotguns.

I am looking for...
-12 Gauge
-26 or 28" Barrel
-Preferably ejectors (What do you guys think about extractors vs ejectors?)

Wanting a good all around gun for the money. I shoot clays and bird hunt (mainly dove).

Any recommendations on model?

Thanks guys, BTW I am shooting this weekend with my 870, so that oughta be fun. Thanks folks!

I don't own an O/U (one day though, for trap), but my thinking on extractors vs ejectors is thus: if you reload, go for extractors. Don't have to chase down empty tubes. :)

I handled one of the CZ's not long ago. Appeared to be a very nice gun. Well made and a real deal for the money.

As for the ejectors. I don't want them on a hunting gun, bad manners to leave shells in a man's field and a good way to not be asked back to hunt. They are OK on a gun that I'm going to shoot targets with and it's OK to leave them laying around. However, for a gun I'm going to do both with, I would rather not have them.

An O/U with ejectors isn't a problem for reloading. All you need to do is cover the receiver with your hand as you open it. The empties will come back and stop when they hit your hand. You then empty it like you would with extractors.

Point taken on both sides guys and thank you for the replies. I do mainly dove hunt and sit in one spot, so I always pick up my hulls afterward. As for covering the shells when the ejectors kick them out, I have thought of that. I saw some college kids doing that while shooting trap. Shoot, break open, slap hulls on the ground. But they were also unloading their Escalade and threw their $4000 guns in their custom leather cases about 10 feet away in a gravel parking lot. :uhoh: Guess that was kind of a sidebar, but anyway. With ejectors I feel like it would be nice to have them for faster reloads, but then again simplicity is bliss sometimes.

I'm not talking about slapping the hulls onto the ground. You just put your hand over the receiver and break the action open. The shells will eject, but stop when they hit your hand. The last inch or so will remain in the chamber and you can simply pluck them out and place them into your vest/pouch/pocket.

It doesn't take any extra dexterity or strength.

Regards the CZ O/Us. They are made by Huglu, a Turkish manufacturer. These Huglus as well as the ones sold by DeHaan seem to be well QC'd before sale - proof to my mind that some Turkish guns are the going good deal. Be advised tho that in the past Huglu made guns at various quality levels. Many GI's brought back inexpensive guns from Turkey that have turned out to be not up to export standards. CZ seems to be making sure the quality matches the level associated with their name. I'm not convinced ATT the same can be said for the Turkish guns Mossberg imports- reports vary.

Other similiar priced guns worth a look see if available in your area are Lanber and Verona 500 series. If an Academy Sports is in your area take a look at Yildiz and let us know what you think.
