I’m looking to pick up a small safe here in the next month or two and am looking for some suggestions.
I’ll be storing my suppressed SBR AR15, 12ga AOW breacher, and a handgun in the safe. I would value these items at around $5,000. Since my apartment is not more than five years old and made out of concrete block I’m more interested in burglary than I am in fire protection. The apartment I’m staying in is primarily young to middle class professionals and the entrance is gated which probably doesn’t mean much.
The smallest I could go would be 20” high if I broke the AR down. I would prefer something 28” to 30” high since that would allow me to store the SBR fully assembled with the suppressor detached. Since I’m living on the bottom floor I plan on mounting the safe/RSC directly into the foundation with ¼” tapcons and fender washers. I don’t have any tools stored in my apartment that could be used to break into the safe. I’d like the safe to be under 300 pounds so that I could move it around with a simple dolly by myself, especially since I probably won’t be here for more than a year. I’m also looking to spend no more than $800 - $1,000
I’ve been looking at the AMSEC model AM3020 seen here:
http://www.amsecusa.com/home-security-safes.html
This seems like a decent safe but I’m not too excited about the 12ga steel body. I’d gladly give up the fire protection that safe offers in exchange for thicker steel.
Does anyone have any suggestions for someone in my situation?
Thanks, Dan
