I have a Yugo M48 Mauser in its original military stock. I’d like to find a sporter style stock to fit this rifle so I can remove and replace the military stock for hunting to save a couple pounds while carrying it around. I want to keep the rest of the gun as is so I can swap it back out later. Most of the stocks I’ve found say they fit a sporter barrel instead of military barrel. Does anyone know of a lighter stock to fit an M48 with a military barrel? It can be wood or fiberglass. Thanks.

If you are just building a rifle that's only going to have a sporter style stock on it for a few weeks of hunting season or a behind the seat truck gun , you can even make a 98 Mauser stock work . The main thing you have to do is move the front trigger guard screw back about 3/8's of inch . You could go on eBay and see if you can find a 98 Mauser sporter stock that had been inletted for a military stepped barrel . With some minor inletting and glass bedding , your ready to go . I built a 308 Win. on a Yugo 48 action and a 98 Mauser stock just to see how hard it would be to do . I am retired and have plenty of time for this kind of a project I have another piece of walnut its eventually going to go on . I will send some pictures of what I did .View attachment 824161 View attachment 824163 View attachment 824164
