So last weekend I went to my brother’s house to go hunting. After now sleep the previous night due to the worst storms I’ve ever experienced, getting up at 04:00 to get to the woods and putting two more deer in his freezer we came back.

He had told me about these game targets he’d found on amazon 120-Pack Gun and Rifle Paper Targets for Shooting by EZ2C ~ Highly Visible and Bright Game Targets ~ for Shooting Range or Outdoor Use ~ Fun Shooting Games at The Range ~ 11" x 17" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SS2X0AO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_7I-cCbHH86FTY

Had a fellow officer come over to “play”. I didn’t bring any of my pistols with me so I borrowed one of his Glocks. We had an absolute blast (pun intended). If you haven’t tried these games, you really should. It’s good cheap fun and really felt like it made me a better pistol marksman. You can also play these games with rifles. But 15 yards might be a little close.

So it got me thinking. Besides the normal grid targets, what targets do you guys and gals like to shoot at? Or what games have you come up with to play? Post pics or provide links if possible. I’m looking for new ideas.

I’d like to add, because I know someone will come along and say we shouldn’t “play” with firearms, that we maintained very safe shooting practices. We ALWAYS do. It was just an afternoon of friendly competition with different targets.

I like the Redfield sight in targets,5 bullseyes with a 1 inch grid over the whole target. 4 shot groups on 5 bullseyes is a box of rounds . I buy them by the 100 pack. hdbiker

The indoor i frequent has a good selection of large paper targets ($1 each aint bad, i bought a hundred when they put them "on sale" at 50c a piece). They range from blue and pink silhouette to multiple bulls eyes to some of these "game" targets.
The games can be fun, not quite plinking on the farm but a break from just shooting bulls eye rings over and over. If you have a buddy it can be a fun competition.
I wish i could find large "shoot N see" type targets for cheap. They really do help seeing your shots.

I no longer look for targets as my favorite was discontinued. I have a pretty good stack of them squirreled away. When my supply gets low I'll see what's available. I also make a bunch of my targets so I'm good for quite some time..

What do these targets look like?

Gunny USMC inspired me to make up a bunch of these- Axis and Allies edition! These are based on actual naval engagements in WW2, each player picks a side and gets a certain number of shots to cause as much damage to his opponents ship as possible. Even my non-history buff buddies got a kick out of it.
Those are awesome!!

You should make up a couple of grids and play "Battleship"! :)

I shoot mostly the photo situational type targets these days, even at longer distances with long guns.

I only shoot targets that react in an entertaining way. AR500, eggs, balloons, clay pigeons, tannerite on the 4th, pop cans, etc.

The only time I shoot paper is for load development/sight in. I'd try the targets in your link though. Maybe there's a billiards one out there :D.

Actually, I think you could do that. But real billiards would be a little difficult. 3 ball, 8 and 9 ball, and snooker could be done though.

I shoot USPS paper targets since our club matches use the cardboard ones. I also do the DOT target once a month or so.

What do these targets look like?

The ones I make vary quite a bit. Some are laid out in a 3" grid with a small circle and larger circle around each crossing point. For 50 yard use the circles are 1/2" and 1" circle. 100 yard targets get a 4" grid and a couple of additional larger circles. I do pistol target with either a 3" black bulls eye or sometimes a 3" square. For red dots I do the circles like on the longer range targets. I also save clean paper plates and do one target point on each. I use black tempera to paint in the large circles after outlining them with magic marker.

Eggs are big fun with rimfire at 50 yards and our chickens lay plenty. The Redfield sight in targets for my centerfires and I have a permanently hung steel target at 100 yards from my back porch that I like to ring from the off hand position when I have limited time to shoot with any of my rifles.

Golf balls really are fun. Especially with pistols. If you’ve got the land, you can actually play golf in a sorts. Start at 5 yards and shoot the ball. The finish line is usually at 30 yards. But you cannot approach the ball. All shots taken for the original shooting location. You can also put obstacles in the fairway that you have to shoot around. Least amount of shots to get it across the finish, wins.

A tip: Solid core balls and 45 ACP ball ammo has provided the best distance per shot.

The OP never distinguished between paper or solid targets.
Answer: plastic orange or yellow cubes and spheres sold by Academy.

About $20 each, fairly reactive. A low shot with one of my AKs has sent them about 15' up onto the berms on the Action Pistol ranges at the nice private club. Use plastic cord and an Action Pistol target bolt to fasten it onto the bottom of the berm.

If you are Having Fun (-bad diseases and the Grim Reaper are waiting for You-), leaning in a crouch against a wooden table etc, or squatting behind a large blue barrel, who cares whether the bullet grouping can be "tight"?
That's academic. Just enjoy your guns while you can.

3x5 index cards.

For pistols I just staple them up.

For accuracy work with 22s or anything precise at 25/50/100 yards, I draw lines on them for an aiming point.

I like spent shotgun shells. They’re reactive and basically free and if you choose your distance wisely can be very challenging. Set up 20 or so and take turns shooting, one hit on a 12 ga hull equals a point. 20 ga shells are 2 points and .410 are 5 points.

After a round, try to find all the shells (some of them really fly) and set them up again. When they won't stand up on their own, lay them on their sides.
