...and it breaks my heart. I remember not yet being old enough to really buy anything, nor did I have the money. But looking back, there are tons of treasures for a reasonably good deal. 500 rounds of .45 was only $89. You could get Enfield Jungle carbines in bulk; FAL upper receivers for $218, $399 M1 Garands...my God.

Anybody have some older issues of stuff like Shotgun News, maybe share some prices? It's torment to know, but I want to.

D-Day be happy!I gotta look at tomorrow's mornings Wall Street Journal.
Hope there's enough left to keep the computer up.
Don't torment yourself. There are still some good gun buys around.Ammo not so much, sadly.

In 2001 the US dollar was worth more than it is now, generally speaking. Also material prices have gone up a lot since then.
On the bright side since 2001 the AWB has ended, so now standard capacity magazines are affordable once again. Also you can now assemble that FAL without having to worry about having more than one evil feature although you still need a certain amount of domestic parts on it.

I think that tomorrow we're going to be seeing bargain hunters on Wall Street... Remember - the Dow average is only a few companies, and if one of the big ones bites it hard, it shows disproportionally...

I wonder how long it's going to be before a member of the media is convicted of manipulating the markets for their own gain...

Until the Twelfth of Never,it appears.

The best ones were in the early 80's looking through SGN, before the '86 ban when there was quite a bit of the "good stuff" and wondering "who in the heck would pay $200 for a Sten receiver?" I wonder if there is still a copy laying around somewhere I could dig up.

Oh, I agree. And I agree again, older prices are even better...but, the main correlation with 2001 was I was so close to opportunity, but so far away. I remember wishing I could buy some of the stuff listed.

I've got just less than two months until I'm 21 and can apply for my C&R, which I've been dying to get and use for the past four years or so.

And I'm almost there... now that the Finnish Mosins, Makarovs, K-31s, CZ-52s and everything else are completely gone.

I try not to think about it too much. At least I found a CZ-52 with walnut grips for $140 OTD at the local shop eight months ago.

In my hand I hold a piece of paper advertising "Sale of M1911 and M1911A1 Pistols. Offered by Government Equipment Section, Washington, D.C.
Pistol, U.S. Cal. 45 M1911 or M1911A1.......$17.00."
All you had to do to purchase was:
a. Have a current NRA membership card
b. send shipping address
c. Fill out purchase request stating that it was OK to own one.

I think this form is from 1955, or so.

Times have changed, eh?

My thoughts exactly.

Heck, at this point I would be pretty happy with ammo prices from last Spring.

I collect coins and have a catalog from the mid 60's with an item for $800 that now goes for $119,000.

Such is life. Imagine what your grandkids will pay for Mr. Fusion batteries for their phasers.

I do feel the pain, though - when I buy ammo.

I was cleaning out some of my garbage, came across a box with some Soldier of Fortunes, American Survival Guides and also a couple of Shotgun News from the late 80's-early 90's. You should see some of those prices...and what fun toys and ammo were available then!

I wish I had a time machine and could make some different choices.

Needless to say, the wife yells at me for not cleaning and sitting there reading "old junk magazines". :D
