Los Angeles city council passes ordinance requiring contractors to disclose ties with NRA

By Andrew O'Reilly | Fox News

In a unanimous decision, the Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday passed an ordinance that requires companies who do work with the city to disclose if they have any ties to the National Rifle Association.

Well keep it up. Drive all the law abiding gun owners from the state. Than when nothing has changed , crime rates are just as bad if not worse a,people can't defend themselves, and illegal guns are STILL in the hands of criminals obtained in illegal ways ... They will realize how wrong they are. But if that happens who will they blame next?

This sounds like discrimination to me. But wait you can only claim discrimination if it involves race, religion or gender..... NOT because you support organization that protects your rights..... Don't see anything wrong with that, what about you guys?

Could you imagine if a Red State made their contractors declare if they belonged to (insert left leaning activist group here). They would freak out so bad, and it would be on the news every night. They would be banging their desks in outrage that the right was acting like facists!

They don’t care it’s not about reducing crime. These groups want to disarm average citizens and they intentionally scare the crap out of the lefties to do it.

Suckered into thinking that’s what they need to be safe and protected. They don’t realize sometimes you gotta be able protect yourself.

Nope, they’ll blame the lack of similar restrictive gun laws in the other states which allow criminals to buy them out of state and bring them when they visit California to fuel their dreams.

Remember the Democrat axiom - its not our fault.

This is a big loser, costing millions in the end.

Elections have consequences and if the voters of California are dumb enough to vote for this garbage, they deserve to pay for the consequences.

I wonder if a company lost a major contract over having NRA members could win in court citing the 1st Amendment and freedom of expression? Wouldn’t that be priceless?

I was thinking the same thing, but I don't believe that it will take a contractor being disqualified from a bid. The ordinance appears unconstitutional on its face and should be vigorously challenged in court.

Hmm, what next? Loyalty oaths and proof of political affiliation?

These things often backfire. Companies contracting with the State are also required to disclose W/MOB & HUB status. They will find a contractor which is W/MOB who objects to that restriction as a discrimination against their minority or female status. Oops.

Good government relies on the consent of the governed... I'm a retired cop and a pretty straight shooter mostly.... My simple solution - this isn't something I'd comply with if I lived in that state....period. Then I'd make a point of not voting for any idiot that thought this was a good idea (even though I'd certainly be in the minority in that sad state....).

For those nearby states with a ton of California refugees... From what I've heard the first thing many of them do is start voting for the same foolishness that's brought California to it's present poor condition....

Like I said before the federal government forced California to become what it is now.

When illegals were flooding into primarily California what was done? No not secure the border, no Republican President Ronald Reagan, the same guy that banned open carry of firearms under the Mulford Act in California while governor, declared amnesty and gave millions of illegals citizenship and the vote in the state.
Not too many years later the federal government determined that prop 187 passed by ballot vote state wide could not be implemented and was unconstitutional. It among other things stopped the funding of illegals, and made it a felony crime to hire illegals, and would have greatly reduced continued immigration by cutting off the primary motivation for illegals to come.
Later we even had laws passed that give more to illegals and their children than even other citizens, the California Dream Act for example making college free if you are the child of an illegal, while requiring you go into debt with student loans or earn a scholarship if you are the average citizen.
Well most of the Mexicans and their children were poor and vote for the party that promises the most subsidies and financial help, and to keep the border an open door policy.
Within a short few years the demographics had changed so significantly that the state was stuck on the path it has been going down ever since.
A state that was primarily ultra left leaning only in Hollywood and San Francisco and quite conservative elsewhere became backed by that vote, and that created the basis for San Francisco to lead the change of California and the nation.
It was not California that failed, the US government failed California.

Well...

Los Angeles passes NRA disclosure law for contractors
February 12, 2019

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles City Council has passed a law requiring companies that want city contracts to disclose whether they have ties to the National Rifle Association.

The measure passed Tuesday.

Councilman Mitch O’Farrell sought the ordinance in the wake of recent U.S. mass shootings. He says the NRA has been a “roadblock to gun safety reform” for decades.

NRA attorneys had warned they’d sue if the ordinance passed.

Attorney Chuck Michel calls the move “modern-day McCarthyism” that would force NRA supporters to drop their memberships for fear of losing their livelihoods.

Michel tells the Los Angeles Times he doesn’t know of any other city that has such a policy and the NRA is confident no judge will uphold it."

Yep, this won't stand legally. If honestly addressed it'll also backfire politically. It's an attack on democratic rights.

It would probably be much more informative to have disclose ties to various PACs.

But, this is nothing but political grandstanding to demonize firearms.

And, now deep do they want to pursue that? If a contractor has ties to DeWalt, who sponsors NRA-supported shooting activities, does that count, even if tertiary? Quantinary? If NRA = Bad, what about SAF? Or CalGuns? Do contractors need to stop using AIG for bonding, since AIG coinsures some NRA insurance policies?

Pointless politicking is pointless.

So lie to the bastards. There is no shame or dishonor lying to the enemy as they are not worthy of the truth. Let the fools award them the contract then send a portion of the profits to the NRA, GOA, JPFO and other gun rights groups.

This sound like a lawsuit waiting to happen based on infringement on a constitutional right. There is a lawsuit going on right now in NY based on Cuomo's treating the NRA negatively.

So all this will end up in court and the state will spend untold millions of taxpayers' dollars to defend their bill, and they will probably lose.

The only people who really win are lawyers....
