Louisiana CHP Legislation: Your Help is needed TONIIGHT (6/10).

Louisiana Senator Nick Gautreaux needs to hear from you TONIGHT. He wants to amend HB556. It is the bill that would allow carrying concealed within the 1000' school zone for CHP holders. If the bill passes unamended, it goes to the Governor. We need this bill to be passed in its original form UNAMENDED. Senator Gautreaux's amendment could cause problems for the bill.

Pleas write and call tonight. The bill will be heard tomorrow. It was postponed today. Ask that House Bill 556 be passed without his amendment.

This is the recommendation of the President of the Louisiana Shooting Association:

It is probably a good idea to write N. Gautreax. Please be respectfull, but point out that the original bill helps 30,000 concealed carry permit holders and passed the house with only 1 Nay vote. His amendment which only helps 1 person raises the possibility that the bill could fail in the senate. Ask him to let the bill go forward without his amendment and tell him you will support him in the future trying to pass the reform he seeks.

His phone numbers:

(337) 740-NICK (6425)
1-866-740-NICK (6425)

I'll be happy to provide more info if I can. What is the question?

The amendment language is this:

However, a person who has been convicted of a violation of 18 USC 491(a) shall be permitted to qualify for a concealed handgun permit if fifteen or more years has elapsed between the date of application and the successful completion or service of any sentence, deferred adjudication, or period of probation or parole.

18 USC 491(a)
Quote:
(a) Whoever, being 18 years of age or over, not lawfully
authorized, makes, issues, or passes any coin, card, token, or
device in metal, or its compounds, intended to be used as money, or
whoever, being 18 years of age or over, with intent to defraud,
makes, utters, inserts, or uses any card, token, slug, disk,
device, paper, or other thing similar in size and shape to any of
the lawful coins or other currency of the United States or any coin
or other currency not legal tender in the United States, to procure
anything of value, or the use or enjoyment of any property or
service from any automatic merchandise vending machine, postage-
stamp machine, turnstile, fare box, coinbox telephone, parking
meter or other lawful receptacle, depository, or contrivance
designed to receive or to be operated by lawful coins or other
currency of the United States, shall be fined under this title, or
imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

This has nothing to do with the bill at hand. And whether you are for or against it, it can be taken up at a different time. If the bill is amended to include this, it will go to conference committee where who knows what can happen.

The Senate did not get to the bill today. It will most likely be heard tomorrow.

We get another shot. Please write and call tonight. This man needs to hear from you.
